A new season of the Premier League is underway but Sky Sports new intro – by Kasabian ft. Cristale – has not been as well received as the first football game was tonight
The new season of the Premier League kicked off tonight (August 15) and fans have been desperate for it to get going for, what promises to be, an electrifying football run.
However, it’s started off on a bum note for Sky Sports after its new Premier League intro was panned by fans – with some even going as far to call it ‘woke nonsense’.
Kasabian have taken over the introductory mantel after British singer Celeste’s Stop This Flame was used by the channel between 2020 and 2025. The British rock group have created a remix of their song G.O.A.T featuring Cristale.
However, upon its release, many fans took to X to voice their dislike of the song.
Many people called it ‘terrible’ and ‘really bad’ but some fans went even further.
One described it as ‘woke nonsense’, another wrote, ‘boring & passionless. Felt like I was watching a pharmaceutical advertisement’ and a third user said, ‘The Premier League, showcased with about the same hype and aura as that naff Gillette indie song ad’.
This is the second time a Kasabian song has appeared in the Premier League intro with Club Foot taking up the task between 2009-2011 and many people called for the return of that attempt by the band instead.
Many fans were calling for Written in the Stars or Moloko’s Time is Now, two classics of the Premier League Sky Sports era.
Fortunately for Liverpool fans, the opening game was more exciting than the new musical introduction when the reigning championships beat Bournemouth 4-2.
Liverpool stormed ahead at half time and got their second goal minutes after returning from the break before Bournemouth levelled the score.
Sadly for the visitors, the hosts punched two more past the post in the last six minutes of the game.
