Donald Trump’s crunch meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy “will live in infamy” and impact on Europe and the UK’s security “for decades”, a world-renowned expert international security expert has said.
Professor Anthony Glees told the Daily Star the Orange Manbaby will “present Zelenskyy with an ultimatum” as European leaders, including UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, gather in Washington at midday local time (5pm British time) to support the Ukrainian President. Trump is scheduled to greet Zelenskyy at 1pm local time (6pm UK time) before they head into a bilateral meeting.
The US President will then greet the EU leaders at 2.15pm local time (7.15pm UK time) before they head for a meeting three-quarters of an hour later. Ahead of the diplomatic arrangements, Prof Glees said: “I fear today will see a disaster of massive proportions unfolding before our eyes.
“Its consequences will be profound and will affect our security here in the UK and in all of Europe for decades to come. Today will be a date ‘which will live in infamy’.
“Trump will present Zelensky with an ultimatum: he will have to accept ceding the key Donbass region as well as many other parts of eastern Ukraine to Putin’s Russia, including Crimea, or be thrown to the Russian wolves. Neither Trump nor Putin have budged one inch since the start of Putin’s foul onslaught on the brave people of Ukraine.
“Trump wants peace but it’s always been peace at any price. He couldn’t give a toss for Ukraine’s sovereignty, and neither can Putin.
“The vile Russian dictator has always wanted all of Ukraine by hook or by crook, he will never quit the lands he has raped, never return the Ukrainian kids he has kidnapped to Russia. He will never stand trial for the war criminal he undoubtedly is.”
The European affairs expert added: “Both men are landgrabbers, both men obsessed with power and wealth. At Anchorage Trump bigged up little Putin (though Trump’s jet and red carpet were larger).
“Trump says they were both on the same side during the ‘Russia hoax’ and they’re on the same side now.
“Putin will sign a deal which allows him to keep what he’s seized and promise to behave in the future. As he did when he agreed to respect Ukraine’s sovereignty in return for their giving up their nukes in the Budapest deal of 1994.
“He then proceeded to annexe Crimea in 2014 and again promised foolish Frau Merkel in the Minsk deal of 2015 that he’d behave better in future.
“Trump will give Putin the Donbass today and Putin will come back for the rest of Ukraine in the years to come, either by force or by subversion and probably both.“Ukraine will be lost today unless the European leaders with Zelenskyy walk out. And what has happened to Ukraine today will happen in Europe more widely tomorrow.”
