The driver of an SUV that crashed late Thursday afternoon in Commack was later pronounced dead at a hospital, the Suffolk County Police Department said.
About 5:50 p.m., a 1989 GMC Suburban heading south on Larkfield Road struck a median and overturned, the police said in a news release.
The driver, a 74-year-old man, was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore where medical staff pronounced him dead, police said.
His name was withheld by police until next of kin were notified.
Detectives with the department’s Second Squad based in Huntington are investigating whether the driver “suffered a medical emergency prior to the crash,” the release said.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash can call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
