Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak this summer, with the Reds seeing a £110million bid for the 25-year-old rejected
Liverpool’s chances of signing Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak could be on the rise. The Reds have been strongly associated with a move for the 25 year old this summer, with Isak’s name frequently cropping up in transfer gossip.
It was back in early August when Liverpool had their £110million bid for Isak turned down by Newcastle. Since then, speculation has been rife about where Isak might be kicking a ball next season, with Liverpool maintaining their interest in the player.
Newcastle are also on the hunt for a new striker following Callum Wilson’s exit. Brentford’s Yoane Wissa is reportedly on the Magpies’ radar, and it was reported on Wednesday that a £40million bid had been knocked back by the Bees.
However, a recent development in Newcastle’s striker search could provide Liverpool with some optimism regarding a future deal for Isak.
The Liverpool Echo report that Newcastle are “pushing” to sign Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen. It’s suggested that the Molineux club would need a bid of around £60million before they’d consider letting the Norway international depart.
However, it’s claimed that Newcastle are resolute in their pursuit of Strand Larsen as they seek a new striker. Whether the Magpies see the 25 year old as a potential replacement for Isak, though, is yet to be confirmed.
Wolves are reportedly keen to retain Strand Larsen, but it’s unclear whether they would entertain a bid from Newcastle should one materialise.
It is also uncertain whether a potential transfer of Strand Larsen could impact Isak’s future and a possible move to Liverpool.
Liverpool have until 1 September to finalise their summer transfer dealings. The Reds will face off against Newcastle in their upcoming Premier League match on Monday night.
On Tuesday night, Isak’s desire to leave Newcastle reached a crucial moment after the 25-year-old slammed the club on social media. Isak was named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Season for the 2024/25 campaign, but he did not attend the ceremony.
Taking to his social media channels, Isak stated he did not attend the awards ceremony due to the ongoing situation surrounding his future before he firmly pointed the finger at Newcastle.
He wrote: “I’m not at the ceremony tonight. With everything going on, it didn’t feel right to be there. I’ve kept quiet for a long time while others have spoken. That silence has allowed people to push their own version of events, even though they know it doesn’t reflect what was really said and agreed behind closed doors.
“The reality is that promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time. To now act as if these issues are only emerging is misleading.
“When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue. That’s where things are for me right now and why change is in the best interests of everyone, not just myself.”
