The cheeky creature was trapped in the bowl at a skatepark, and after some quick thinking from a passerby, managed to escape, only to immediately steel a skateboard
They say morality is never black or white. However, when it comes to skunks, that’s obviously not the case.
At least that’s the truth with one of these monochromatic mammals, who after being graciously saved from a skating bowl, ungraciously made off with his helper’s board.
In a bizarre video posted to TikTok at an American skatepark, a couple can be seen dangling a chain off their skateboard in order to rescue the trapped animal from the deep bowl where it has stumbled into.
Unsurprisingly, the video has been dubbed over with the JetTwo Holiday jingle, so we can only imagine what was being said, but the slapstick escape method incredibly works, with the skunk managing to hold on with its mouth.
The stinky skater boi shows no gratitude to the assailants of his his great escape, as he makes off with the skateboard and chain, seemingly keen to give the sport a go.
Unsurprisingly, commentators on the video were keen to criticise the skunk’s lack of thanks.
“The skunk probably does this on purpose to get free skateboards”, theorised one user, while another pointed out that saving the skunk was irresponsible as it “might get hooked and need to go skating every day!”
Danielle Gavin, who was walking her dog when she recorded the original video, posted a second clip of the animal later, showing it still walking around the skatepark with the board, despite the creature’s rescuer desperately trying to claim it back.
It’s unclear whether the board was ever recovered, or whether the skunk’s seeming love for skating has blossomed.
Incredibly, this isn’t the only trapped animal story this week.
Closer to home in Essex, a teenage postboy stumbled into a real life ‘fox in the box’ situation when he discovered one of the orange creatures trapped in a letter hatch.
Liam Clement, 16, has been crowned a local hero for his quick-thinking, which saw him rescue the fox twice in quick succession, as the poor creature managed to wedge itself between a brick wall and a garden fence moments after being freed from the letter box.
Sadly the fox suffered injuries to its leg, however the vets looking after the creature say its likely to make a full recovery and be released into the wild in a matter of weeks.
As for our friend the skunk, perhaps we’ll see him tearing it up at the next LA Olympics, or at least popping an ollie at the local park.
