Capital star Sian Welby would love to take over as host of Strictly from TV heroes Tess and Claudia. She fronts Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball this weekend where she aims to find a husband for performer Raye, and possibly give co-host Jordan North his Crimbo gift.
CAPITAL’S Jingle Bell Ball kicks off this weekend but host Sian Welby has next year’s ‘Strictly on her mind.
The DJ, who is regular on This Morning and Loose Women, would love to take over from Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman as presenter of Strictly Come Dancing in 2026 when they hang up their ball gowns.
Sian told the Daily Star: “It’s funny because within seconds of that being announced, I had so many WhatsApps from mates and colleagues going, ‘oh, my God, Sian you should do this’.
“It would obviously be the most incredible job to get. I mean, Tess and Claudia were just icons and they paved the way for it being two female presenters, which sounds bonkers, but it wasn’t really done. I thought that was epic, and people were so funny about it at the start.
“Yeah, I would love to do a job like that. They’re the kind of shows that are on the bucket list, all those types of things where it’s big, it’s shiny, it’s entertainment and you’re everyone’s home, and you’re the name.”
For now Sian is happy pouring Eggnog for the likes of Kylie Minogue and Louis Tomlinson over two festive nights at London’s O2. Chart topper Alex Warren may get a double serving just for being so inspiring.
“I just couldn’t get over his story of losing both his mum and dad at a very young age and very difficult circumstances,” explained Sian. “And when he was writing Ordinary, he was living in a car, someone’s looking out for this guy because for those stars to align to be so destitute almost and have every odd stacked against you, to come out with such an incredible song that gives you goosebumps, I’m hoping he brings a choir, I think the whole crowd would be in bits.”
Sian is also looking forward to catching up with Anne-Marie who, like her, juggles a career with being a mum.
Sian said: “She turns up, she gives you a cracking performance, she has no sleep, she’s got two children now under two. I mean, I’ve got one and it’s so hard, so hats off to her. We’re all trying to make it happen because we’ve all worked so hard to get to where we are. On stage she’s almost like a stand-up, she’s very good at working the crowd.”
Another performer, Raye might finally find that elusive husband this weekend.
The Jingle Bell Ball team are going all out to deliver the singer a man when she performs at The O2.
“No joke. I want to do that,” said Sian. “It’s a bit route one I know but we might have to do some sort of live interactive dating service in the audience. I mean, it’s 20,000 people in one room, surely we can find her husband.”
Breakfast co-host Jordan North will be joining Sian at The O2 on Saturday and Sunday, and it might be the moment to give him his Xmas present.
She whispered: “I found him this old-fashioned 70s coffee machine that has a cigarette lighter attached with it!”
No spoilers!
