More than 134,000 customers with the telecoms giant reported issues with their network on Monday afternoon – thankfully, the company has now shed some light on the issue
Vodafone has issued a response to our request for what exactly is going with its broadband following an afternoon of chaos in the UK for many customers.
Thousands of people with the telecommunications giant have been battling to access the internet on Monday, according to figures from tech outage monitor Down Detector. At its peak, more than 130,000 users were impacted by the sudden crash.
The bulk of troubles were being recorded in major cities that included London, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle, Glasgow and Cardiff. The problems first kicked off at around 3pm – but had reduced to around 41,000 by 4:15pm.
After contacting Vodafone for an update, a spokesperson confirmed that a “major issue” was affecting its broadband, 4G and 5G services
They told us: “We are aware of a major issue on our network currently affecting broadband, 4G and 5G services.
“We appreciate our customers’ patience while we work to resolve this as soon as possible.”
Just over two-thirds of the difficulties related to landline internet (67%), whilst a quarter (25%) stemmed from mobile internet.
A further 8% of Vodafone had lost signal completely due to the blackout.
One frustrated user vented on Down Detector: “WiFi dropped out mid tug ffs, all of UK down, what am I gonna watch now.”
Another fumed: “And this happens freakin daily! ! ! WTF? ! 00? ! ? ! I got work to do! ! ! I’m freaking another provider got enough of this bullcrap.”
Meanwhile, social media users also voiced their frustration, with one person asking: “@VodafoneUK just me or have you fallen off the planet? No broadband, no website, no cell signal?”.
Another commented: “Looks like @vodafone are using a big outage as my broadband and mobile data have gone off …” A third person remarked: “Vodafone home broadband seems to be down? No internet. Started at about 15:00 today.”
A fourth user on X posted: “@VodafoneUK broadband has gone down. None of my apps are working from vodafone and your number is not working have you got issues?”
Elsewhere, new research found that more than half of us struggle with sketchy broadband at least twice a month – and most of us can’t be bothered to do anything about it.
People reported missing out on once-in-a-lifetime concert tickets, losing job opportunities and even being unable to watch a family funeral online as a result of patchy Wi-Fi.
One individual even told researchers that their relationship ended because of constant broadband failures, while a few randy others said their phone sex sessions had been ruined when the broadband cut out.
