Indy, the pup protagonist of the 2025 horror movie Good Boy, has written a letter to The Academy urging them to “throw him a bone” and bestow him with an Oscar
A dog has begged The Academy to present him with an Oscar.
Indy the dog has become 2025’s most unlikely new star after appearing in the horror movie Good Boy as the lead character. However, the pup is clearly unimpressed with how humans do things when it comes to awards season.
Indy recently “wrote” a letter addressed to the members of the Academy and said: “I write this letter to request your consideration in this year’s Academy Awards best acting performance race. Despite my critically acclaimed role in the recent film Good Boy, I have been deemed ineligible for the Best Actor category.”
“This news feel as if someone has yanked my leash short as apparently I am not a good enough boy for you.”
Indy said that he understands the rules but asked: “How many great performances must go overlooked before the Academy throws us a bone?”
The canine actor cited Free Willy, Babe, The Birds and War Horse as his inspirations and pointed out: “We [animals] remain largely absent from your yearly accolades, unrecognised for our craft, and left in my smaller but still adequate house by the academy at large.”
Indy continued: “We ask that you stop lifting your leg on the contribution of myself and the many great animal actors whose work continues to go unrecognised. With heartfelt hope deepest respect and puppy dog eyes, Indy.”
He signed off with a pawprint and after the letter went viral, fans flooded social media to urge The Academy to reconsider.
On X/Twitter one person said: “Please give him his award,” while another wrote: “He understood the assignment and sat for it.” A third typed: “A good boy being denied a treat breaks my soul.”
“I am all for this pup playing a main character in a film, I love dogs but I also think it’s hilarious they call the pup the best actor rather than the trainer the best trainer,” chimed in another user.
