Just a week after traces of cocaine were found at a Labour Party conference event, a Daily Star Sunday investigation has discovered the Class-A drug in the toilets of the Tory conference in Manchester
Cocaine was found at the Tory party conference, the Daily Star Sunday can reveal. Our investigators found multiple traces of the Class-A drug in the toilets at the heavily-policed Manchester exhibition centre hosting the event.
Police-standard drug detection swabs also turned immediately positive for the drug at the Midland Hotel, which was used to host some of the conference’s most high-profile fringe events, including talks by former “tough on crime” home secretary Priti Patel.
The substance was also present all over the loos of a rooftop bar where a raucous, booze-soaked disco in honour of Margaret Thatcher was held in Manchester during the conference. Our swabs showed heavy blue splotches as soon as we used them to test surfaces of toilets at all three venues. They are 95% accurate.
It comes after a similar investigation showed the drug was present at an invite-only Labour Party event attended by several high ranking MPs.
The Manchester Central exhibition centre was covered in traces of coke despite a massive police presence at the venue following this month’s brutal synagogue massacre in the city.
Guests had to put bags through an X-ray machine and walk through airport-style security to get into the venue.
Thousands of MPs, Young Conservatives and supporters last week spent four days pouring through the doors of all the venues we swabbed for coke.
The day we checked the exhibition centre, a string of boozy events were thrown including one by the Young Conservatives – which saw Tory leader Kemi Badenoch turn up and give a surprise singalong performance to the soundtrack of Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline.
Disabled loos and other posh bogs in the Midlands hotel, metres from the exhibition centre, appeared to have traces of coke left scattered on the top of toilet roll holders.
And Cloud 23, a rooftop bar in the Deansgate Hotel, which hosted a disco in honour of what would have been Maggie Thatcher’s 100th birthday this month, was also littered with traces of the outlawed drug.
A probe in 2022 found traces of the powder in bathrooms close to a packed bar within the security cordon at Birmingham’s Hyatt Regency hotel during the party’s annual event.
The Conservative Party Conference is a four-day national conference event held by the Conservative Party in the United Kingdom. It takes place every year in October during the British party conference season, when the House of Commons is usually in recess.
