Strictly Come Dancing viewers were left saying the same thing just seconds into Saturday’s live show
Strictly Come Dancing fans found themselves sidetracked as Movie Week launched on Saturday night (October 11).
Prior to the celebrities and their professional dance partners gracing the iconic ballroom floor, the BBC programme welcomed Cynthia Erivo as the show’s inaugural guest mentor.
A tribute segment showcasing Cynthia, renowned for her portrayal of Elphaba in the upcoming Wicked film, appeared on screens before the professionals delivered a spectacular routine set to the Wicked anthem As Long As You’re Mine.
Cynthia has joined the Strictly judging panel but will only comment on performances and not score.
Yet Strictly enthusiasts couldn’t help but draw parallels between the opening segment and the introduction sequences from competing reality programme The X-Factor.
Flocking to X, one devoted viewer commented: “What was that intro for Cynthia? ? it’s giving X Factor icl #strictly,” whilst another enquired: “Obsessed with that X Factor style intro for Cynthia #BBCStrictly #StrictlyComeDancing #Strictly”, reports Wales Online.
A third viewer added: “What’s the 2010 X Factor intro about #Strictly,” whilst another declared: “Why is this Cynthia Erivo intro giving peak X Factor omggggg I love it #Strictly.”
Stefan Dennis has been compelled to withdraw from this weekend’s live programme after becoming unwell.
The announcement was made during last night’s It Takes Two programme, with the BBC issuing a statement that confirmed: “Due to illness over the past few days, Stefan Dennis has been advised by doctors to rest and , as a result, he will not dance this weekend.
“In lines with the rules of Strictly, Stefan and Dianne will receive a bye through to next week when they will hopefully be able to dance again.”
Prior to the live show, bookmakers had made Ross King the favourite to face elimination next.
The TV presenter has suffered a devastating setback as he sits at 10/11 to get the chop on Sunday night.
Meanwhile, Chris Robshaw could find himself in trouble at 6/4 for departure, whilst Stefan Dennis (8/1) remains the only other contestant with odds shorter than 14/1 for an exit this weekend.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes commented: “It’s bad news for Ross heading into this weekend’s Strictly… punters reckon he’s next in line for the boot.”
Strictly’s results show airs Sunday, October 12, at 7:15pm
