The latest weather maps show the exact date that temperatures will plummet across the UK, with some parts of the country set to see lows of 4C in just a couple of weeks
Weather maps have pinpointed the exact date when temperatures will plummet to a chilly 4C in parts of the UK this August. The nation is currently grappling with its fourth heatwave of the summer, as temperatures rocket past 30C in many regions.
This year has seen an exceptionally hot and dry summer across the UK, leading to declared droughts and hosepipe bans in numerous areas. However, a change is on the horizon in just a few days.
The latest weather maps predict a shift towards cooler climes by the end of August. This will be a welcome relief for many Brits who are struggling to keep cool during the ongoing heatwave.
WXCharts’ maps indicate temperatures of 4C in parts of Northern England and Scotland on August 21. These lowest temperatures will be felt in the early morning, rising slightly as the day progresses.
The chilliest spots are expected to be Cumbria and Durham in the north of England, and areas north of Glasgow and Edinburgh in Scotland.
As the day unfolds, temperatures will rise but are set to remain in the low to mid-teens for most of the country.
Even at midday, it could still be as cold as 4C in parts of Scotland and 7C in many areas of England.
The warmest spots will be around London, where temperatures could reach 12C at midday. By 6pm, the mercury is expected to peak at around 16C in England and Wales.
Comparable conditions are anticipated for the days after August 21, with 4C predicted across broader areas of England, Wales and Scotland. Following this period, temperatures aren’t forecast to hit 20°C or higher until August 25.
The Met Office indicates that high pressure is set to give way to low pressure, resulting in “an increasing possibility of stronger winds and rain, some of which could be heavy and thundery, especially for southern and western areas, but this perhaps becoming more widespread with time”.
The official forecasters outlook for late August extending into early September states: “Overall, unsettled conditions with showers or longer spells of rain are expected to be most prevalent.
“Some heavy and thundery rain is possible at times with a risk of strong winds. Interspersed with this are likely to be some transient periods of drier and more settled weather.”
