The Met Office has warned a North-South weather divide is set to emerge this weekend as the remnants of storm Floris make way for ‘a more typical summer pattern’
Britain is set for a huge weather divide this weekend with rain forecast for the north and sunshine predicted for the south, the Met Office said.
The national weather forecaster also hinted at a return to “a more typical summer pattern” after storm Floris blew through he country. And midweek isn’t looking too bad either with highs of 26C and sunshine predicted for Wednesday.
Rain will return to the Northwest on Thursday but the warm temperatures will remain across the country. The showers will persist in the North on Friday while the South will be blessed with more sunshine.
And the weekend is set to see similar patterns. The Met Office said: “As we head into the weekend, the pattern of low pressure to the north and high pressure to the south continues.
“This will maintain a northwest-southeast split in conditions. Frontal systems approaching the UK will mainly affect northwestern areas, bringing the greatest chance of rain, particularly on Sunday, though Saturday may also see some wet spells.
“Meanwhile, southeastern parts of the UK are likely to remain drier, with sunny breaks and warmer temperatures. In the sunshine, it will feel warm, with some areas seeing temperatures above average. In contrast, the north will feel fresher, especially where rain and blustery winds persist.
“This week marks a transition from the stormy start brought by Floris to a more typical summer pattern. High pressure will bring fine and warm conditions to many midweek, but further low-pressure systems will keep the north and west unsettled. The south and east will fare better, with drier and warmer weather likely to dominate.”
It comes as weather maps have pinpointed the exact date searing hot 39C summer weather will return to the UK. According to WXCharts’ forecast data, temperatures could surpass the mid-30s in some areas by Monday, August 18.
From Middlesbrough through the Northeast and down to the south coast, much of England is predicted to see temperatures of at least 30C by 7pm, peaking at 34C in some spots. A handful of counties could even experience sweltering highs of around 35C.
These include Somerset, potentially extending into Devon, Wiltshire and the northern parts of Dorset, Berkshire, and Hampshire.
Oxfordshire, Warwickshire and the northern regions of Cambridgeshire, along with Herefordshire, Worcestershire, and the northern parts of Gloucestershire, could also see the mercury hit 36C.
