Benidorm welcomes millions of tourists due to its beautiful beaches, warm weather, and bustling nightlife. One visitor to the Spanish coastal resort has shared a warning for others planning to visit
Benidorm is a beloved getaway for countless Brits who head too the resort’s golden shores to soak up the buzzing nightlife and affordable prices. The Spanish hotspot draws millions of holidaymakers annually who anticipate having a blast discovering the party atmosphere, but one tourist has recounted his distressing ordeal.
Frank the Stag Man, renowned for organising countless stag and hen dos in Benidorm, posted a TikTok video chatting to a British man who endured “not your normal night out in Benidorm.” The tourist, hailing from Scarborough, revealed to Frank that he was by himself on the Benidorm Strip, a renowned nightlife hub crammed with bars, pubs and clubs, when he collapsed and had his possessions stolen, including his wallet and mobile.
The man suspected he’d been spiked, explaining that he’d been spiked previously so he recognised the sensation.
Drink spiking is a serious crime involving slipping someone substances or alcohol without their knowledge or consent, whether in their beverage or via injection.
The Scarborough tourist went on to say he came round on a park bench where two Spanish police officers instructed him to move on, and he eventually made it back to his accommodation at 8am after asking locals for directions as he was completely lost.
He reported that his wallet, cards and cash had all been robbed, along with his phone, e-cigarette and even his glasses.
The holidaymaker thinks the thieves noticed that he was on his own “or they wouldn’t have done it.”
His hunch is that they must have spotted him drinking alone at a bar and decided to tamper with his beverage.
Elaborating on the alleged spiking incident, the tourist revealed that when he’d been spiked previously his eyes had puffed up, and he noticed the same thing happening again during this episode.
According to Police.UK, spiking symptoms differ depending on what substance someone has laced your drink with, but the organisation notes that the warning signs can mirror those of drinking too much alcohol.
Frank, who hails from Tottenham but relocated to the Spanish coastal resort years ago, asked the man about what guidance he’d offer fellow tourists heading to Benidorm for their holidays.
He responded: “Don’t stay out on your own, never. Make sure you’re out with your mates.”
The man explained that the sole reason he remained out was because he wanted to keep partying but his friends wanted to call it a night, leaving him alone.
Frank also issued a stark warning to tourists in his TikTok video caption: “BE AWARE IN BENIDORM. THIS IS REAL and I hear it a lot.”
The clip has amassed 1.6 million views, 19,000 likes and over 1,000 comments. One viewer advised: “On a holiday like that you go out with just your money for the night.”
Another chimed in: “I’ve been hearing loads of these stories about Benidorm. It’s gone so downhill lately.”
A third person responded: “I’m going on my own in August as a solo traveller. I’ll be bringing my drink to the toilet with me. Thanks for the heads up.”
Despite the caution, other tourists who have visited Benidorm insisted they had a brilliant time without any problems.
One viewer posted: “I’ve went out in Benidorm myself loads of times with zero issues,” whilst another added: “Benidorm is a great place.”
A second weighed in: “I’ve been going Benidorm for 40 years and never had any issues, there’s good and bad everywhere.”
