Arsenal have got off to winning ways in the Premier League – defeating Manchester United 1-0 – but Mikel Arteta is still looking to get some transfer dealings done
Arsenal kicked off with a victory, defeating Manchester United 1-0 in their Premier League opener on Sunday, thanks to defender Riccardo Calafiori’s winning goal.
New signings Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi and Noni Madueke all made their first appearances in that match. The Gunners have splashed out over £200million this summer, with Cristhian Mosquera, Christian Norgaard and Kepa Arrizabalaga also joining the ranks at the Emirates.
However, more arrivals and departures could be on the cards before the transfer window slams shut. Several peripheral players at the club could be on their way out, with Nuno Tavares, Marquinhos, Jorginho, Kieran Tierney, Thomas Partey and Takehiro Tomiyasu a;ready leaving.
Here, Daily Star Sport delves into all the latest transfer news and gossip from around the Emirates….
Mikel Arteta’s next target
Mikel Arteta is still keen to sign a new left winger this summer, but must offload before he can purchase, reports the Mirror. Leandro Trossard is the player most likely to leave, with Aston Villa, Brentford and several other clubs across Europe showing interest in the winger.
Despite Arsenal’s hefty investment in Noni Madueke, Gabriel Martinelli started at Old Trafford and Arteta is looking to add extra quality.
The Gunners had shown interest in Crystal Palace sensation Eberechi Eze, but opted against making a move over fears it might hinder the development of emerging talents such as Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman.
Eze is now anticipated to make the switch to north London rivals Tottenham instead.
Rodrygo statement
Real Madrid’s Rodrygo has been strongly tipped for a switch to Arsenal, but new boss Xabi Alonso has made it clear he’s content to retain the winger.
Rodrygo seemed to have slipped down the hierarchy at the Bernabeu following just one starting appearance under Alonso during the Club World Cup. And he was an unused sub on Tuesday evening.
Nevertheless, when quizzed about the Brazilian’s prospects before Real Madrid’s season opener, Alonso commented: “There are a lot of rumours this summer.
“He looks good to me. I’m counting on everyone, and I want them to be committed to the team and be at 100 percent. That’s what worries me and what’s occupying me right now.”
Jakub Kiwior interest
AC Milan and Porto are both keen on securing Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior, according to a report from the Standard.
Kiwior failed to make the matchday squad for Arsenal’s curtain-raiser against Manchester United after the arrival of Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia earlier this summer.
The report claims that Arsenal are reluctant to part with Kiwior, but they ‘could be tempted into selling if an offer is too good to turn down’.
