Strictly Come Dancing professional Gorka Marquez has confirmed that he won’t be getting a partner for the upcoming series of the BBC dance show as he makes major announcement
Gorka Marquez has been swamped with supportive messages as he happily shared a career shift away from Strictly Come Dancing, which will significantly alter his role on the show this year. The pro dancer is lacing up his shoes for another spin around the BBC One dance floor after being confirmed in the returning line-up. However, he’s let slip that he won’t be paired up with a celeb this year.
Back in April, the BBC announced the professional dancers set to light up the Strictly stage in the upcoming series, due to kick off this autumn. Gorka will be back in the fray alongside Dianne Buswell, Nadiya Bychkova, Amy Dowden, Karen Hauer, Katya Jones, Lauren Oakley and Neil Jones.
Also strutting their stuff in this year’s pro line-up are Nikita Kuzmin, Kai Widdrington, Luba Mushtuk, Jowita Przystal, Johannes Radebe, Aljaž Škorjanec, Michelle Tsiakkas, Nancy Xu, Carlos Gu and Vito Coppola.
The BBC also spilled the beans that two fresh faces will be joining the dancing ranks. The newbies have since been unveiled as So You Think You Can Dance champ Alexis Warr and Julian Caillon from Australia’s Dancing With The Stars, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Now, Gorka has dropped another bombshell. Not only is he returning to Strictly, but he’ll also be reprising his role as a judge on Bailando con las estrellas, the Spanish version of the hit dance show.
The 34-year-old dancer took to Instagram on Wednesday (August 6) to share his exciting news: “I am happy to announce that I will be back for season two of BAILANDO CON LAS ESTRELLAS as a judge from September.
“Due to the filming dates this means that I won’t be competing with a partner this year in Strictly but I will be a part of lots of the group numbers and will be back for final weeks of the show to support the rest of my fellow pros and their celebrities in what is going to be an AMAZING SERIES. As always thank you for all The love and support and remember! Keep dancing!”
His fiancee Gemma Atkinson was quick to respond, saying: “Vamos! Very proud.” His Strictly colleagues were swift to rally round him, while fans expressed their disappointment that he won’t be competing this year.
One lamented: “Noooooo! Strictly won’t be the same without you! I hope you enjoy every minute of it!” Another chimed in: “Gutted wanted you to win.”
One penned: “Gutted, always love to see you with a partner but least we will still see you in the group numbers.” And someone else added: “It won’t be the same without you but so excited for your judging role again! Congratulations! And I’m looking forward to the group numbers.”
