President Donald Trump said he would ‘take a look’ at pardoning Ghislaine Maxwell, speaking in the Oval Office – as he faces mounting pressure to ‘release the Epstein files’
A presidential pardon could potentially liberate Jeffrey Epstein’s accomplice and former partner, convicted child sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell, President Donald Trump suggested in a shocking revelation during an Oval Office interview.
Despite ongoing questions surrounding President Trump’s extensive ties with Maxwell and the disgraced convicted paedophile casting a shadow over his second term’s opening year, he informed CNN he would “take a look at” pardoning the 63 year old sex trafficker and would consult with the Department of Justice (DOJ) regarding her situation.
Trump made this startling confession after journalist Kaitlan Collins questioned the President about the Supreme Court’s ruling to dismiss Maxwell’s final legal challenge, responding: “You know, I haven’t heard the name in so long. I can say this, that I’d have to take a look at it. I would have to take a look. Did they reject that?”.
In 2022, Maxwell received a 20-year prison sentence for her involvement in trafficking minors and enabling their sexual exploitation by the infamous paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein, who allegedly took his own life whilst awaiting trial three years prior. However, with all her legal challenges now exhausted, the sole remaining opportunity for the only individual imprisoned for Epstein’s decades of child abuse rests with a presidential pardon from Trump.
The 79 year old commander-in-chief revealed that numerous convicted offenders petition him for pardons, informing journalists that rap tycoon P. Diddy had recently contacted the White House seeking clemency, reports the Express.
However, when Trump seemed to hint at considering a pardon for Maxwell, Collins challenged him: “But she was convicted of sex trafficking.
“Yeah, I mean, I’m going to have to take a look at it,” Trump responded. “I’d have to ask DOJ. I didn’t know they rejected it. I didn’t know she was even asking for it, frankly.”
Trump’s MAGA supporters have found it increasingly difficult to back him in recent months due to significant backlash over his administration’s alleged concealment of documents related to Epstein’s crimes and the high-profile individuals who could also be implicated.
This came to a head earlier this year, when the FBI and DOJ concluded their investigations into the billionaire financier’s crimes, despite Trump’s campaign trail promises to “release the Epstein files” once in office.
“It is the determination of the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation that no further disclosure would be appropriate or warranted,” officials stated.
Survivors of Jeffrey Epstein’s large-scale child abuse have voiced their “horror and disgust” at recent events, after it appeared that Ghislaine Maxwell might be receiving preferential treatment from Trump’s Justice department, following her transfer to a minimum security women’s prison not typically used for housing sex offenders.
This transfer from a harsh Florida prison followed two meetings with senior DOJ officials, with the White House insisting at the time that “no leniency is being given or discussed” regarding Maxwell’s conviction. However, Trump’s spontaneous remarks on Monday suggest that a pardon remains a possibility.
Following the Supreme Court’s rejection of her final appeal, Maxwell’s solicitor David Oscar Markus vowed: “This fight isn’t over. Serious legal and factual issues remain, and we will continue to pursue every avenue available to ensure that justice is done.”
