Wayne Lineker has announced he is leaving Ibiza in an emotional message to his fans after saying his Ibiza lifestyle “is now impossible for me”
Ocean Beach proprietor Wayne Lineker has announced his departure from Ibiza in a heartfelt message to supporters, confessing his Ibiza way of life “is now impossible for me”.
The 63-year-old nightclub boss has chosen to distance himself from the party isle after admitting he was “becoming a little bit miserable”. He confirmed his exit from the island on Sunday October 5. Last month, Wayne disclosed a significant personal transformation, quietly revealing he had entered rehabilitation earlier this year and had maintained sobriety for over two months.
He acknowledged he’s finally discovering how to embrace life without alcohol or substances – and has also rebuilt his relationship with brother Gary Lineker following nearly two decades of separation, reports the Mirror.
Posting on Facebook and Instagram on Sunday, Wayne declared he had abandoned the party island and its associated lifestyle, stating “there is no bigger trigger in the world than Ocean for me”.
He penned: “So I made the decision to leave Ibiza this morning before the island won again.. Living my former Ibiza lifestyle is now impossible for me. Walking into Ocean is very different for me now being sober.
“Honestly, I thought I would be able to cope with it, but I found myself becoming a little bit miserable – hiding in the restaurant or leaving early which is totally not my character at all. It’s tough being the centre of attention too for all those people when they are shall we say “very merry”.. that mixed with the music, the sunshine, the shows, the dancers, the vibe, the venue, the orange cups in the air surrounded by what seems an eternity of bikinis makes it very very difficult.
“In rehab therapists talk about triggers, which basically means staying away from environments, places, certain people, events etc that will lead to temptation – and let’s face it, there is no bigger trigger in the world than Ocean for me.
“One day I’m hopeful I’ll find a new version of myself that can step back into the beating heart of Ibiza. but for now, I just need a little more time to heal… and that’s what recovery is. If there’s anyone out there reading this who’s in a similar spot, it’s ok, you can face your demons. Get yourselves help .. going to rehab was the best decision of my life!”.
“Next week I am going back to Priory Life Works @priorygroup and doing an interview/podcast with production team, Priory Life Works Surrey where I spent 6 weeks in recovery to do a special interview and tell my story, the journey I walked, sharing how rehab changed my life and ultimately kept me alive.”
Wayne’s supporters flooded the comments with encouraging messages, with one fan penning: “Well done and it’s great when people with a platform share their story – there be lots of people who need to go sober and seeing someone being open about it and the struggles will help.”
Another admirer commented: “Top man. The best decision you will ever make Wayne.”
Meanwhile, a third follower added: “Identifying a trigger and removing yourself is the strongest thing ever.”
