Justin Bieber was spotted in a fish and chip shop in Scotland where he sang the menu to staff – but the boss said he had “absolutely no idea” who the scruffy-looking lad was
Pop sensation Justin Bieber dropped into a Scottish chippy and serenaded staff with the menu – but the owner was utterly clueless about his famous customer’s identity.
The global superstar grabbed some grub at Cromars Fish and Chips, a takeaway in St Andrews, Fife, following his visit to the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Yet Charles Mair and his crew were so rushed off their feet they failed to clock that the dishevelled young bloke was a musical icon – despite him crooning their offerings.
Chatting yesterday, Charles, 47, revealed: “To tell you the truth, we had absolutely no idea who it was. We were very, very busy because of the Dunhill Cup event at Gleneagles. So we were rushing around when all of a sudden this customer started tapping his hands on the counter and singing the menu.
“He was by himself but had two other friends with him who were helping him with the order. He placed his order and we cook fresh-to-order so he had to wait like everyone else, he was very charming and nice. And then we actually realised who it was. Half of St Andrews knew who it was so we got extremely busy.”
Charles revealed that Bieber, who commands 293 million Instagram followers, remained “respectful” despite the lengthy queue, happily waiting his turn for haddock and chips. The Canadian chart-topper has since shared a string of snaps on social media documenting his Scottish adventure – including one snapped by a punter showing him clutching his pint outside Cromars Fish and Chips, reports the Mirror.
In a chat with the Daily Mail, Charles shared: “A lot of people came in as well. It was a good, buzzing atmosphere, he was very nice, very respectful. He took it away because there was no space inside unfortunately. We have a takeaway licence, so he was allowed to do that.
“He was probably here for about 15 minutes. It takes about seven to ten minutes to cook the fish and the waiting time because we were very busy. It was an interesting experience to be honest. He was absolutely fine with other customers, very happy and relaxed. Very nice and chilled out.”
The 31 year old Bieber is currently in Scotland, indulging in golf at Gleneagles and staying at the five-star hotel. Post his St Andrews visit, he embarked on a pub crawl in Dundee, located roughly 10 miles north.
In Dundee, the singer was reportedly spotted in a small local pub, much to the surprise of regular patrons. The father-of-one was seen enjoying a quiet pint in the corner of the pub and having a go at an arcade machine.
