Strictly Come Dancing professional Amy Dowden has been inundated with support from fans after she and her partner Thomas Skinner were eliminated from the BBC dance competition
Amy Dowden has thanked fans for “all the love and support” after returning home following her departure from Strictly Come Dancing.
The Welsh professional dancer had been partnered with Thomas Skinner in the BBC ballroom competition, but the duo faced elimination over the weekend.
The pair received their marching orders after finding themselves in the bottom two, with former Apprentice contestant Thomas becoming the first celebrity to leave this series.
Following their exit, Amy posted a photograph on Instagram that showed her smiling whilst wrapped in a blanket on her sofa, reports Wales Online.
“And I’m home home,” she captioned the post to her followers.
“Just want to say again the biggest thank you for all the love and support. I’ve certainly felt it and it’s so appreciated.
“Sending Welsh love and positivity to you all.”
Amy and Thomas found themselves in the bottom two alongside former England rugby star Chris Robshaw and his professional partner Nadiya Bychkova.
Both couples performed their routines once more, but the judges favoured Chris and Nadiya’s Viennese Waltz over Amy and Thomas’ Salsa.
Thomas had attracted controversy early in the series following reports that he had stormed out of a Strictly press conference.
But upon his elimination, he expressed how much he had “loved” his experience on the Strictly stage.
“I’ve never danced before and my stay was short, but Amy’s amazing,” he reflected. “It’s been great fun and I’ve enjoyed it. I can’t really dance that well but I’ve had fun!
“Thank you, Amy – sorry that we haven’t done too good, ’cause you’re a different class.”
Amy was making her comeback to the programme following a two-year absence from the competition.
She was unable to participate in 2023 whilst undergoing breast cancer treatment and was forced to withdraw last year due to a leg injury.
Taking to Instagram following her departure from this year’s show, she penned: “Tom, you have truly helped bring me back, not just to the show, but to myself.
“Our training days have been filled with laughter and just enjoying the moment… I would have absolutely loved to take you even further, just to share even more of the joy of dancing and the Strictly magic with you.
“But I’m leaving with a heart full of gratitude and pride.”
Strictly Come Dancing is on at 6.05pm on BBC One on Saturday October 11
