Strictly Come Dancing star Amber Davies has opened up about her gruelling training
Strictly Come Dancing’s Amber Davies revealed details about her forthcoming routine on Wednesday’s This Morning.
The former Love Islander turned West End performer, 29, joined the BBC One programme at short notice after Dani Dyer had to withdraw due to injury.
On Saturday evening, during their second performance of the series, Amber and professional partner Nikita Kuzmin secured the top spot on the leaderboard with their Samba to “Bam Bam” by Camila Cabello and Ed Sheeran.
Speaking on Wednesday’s This Morning about her experience so far, Amber defended her West End background, emphasising that Ballroom and Latin dancing is completely different.
Amber explained: “I want to say, I think the Ballroom and Latin community know that musical theatre are worlds apart from each other”, adding: “I do understand where they come from, because yes, I can perform.”, reports Wales Online.
“But there’s a great example, yesterday, we were doing our American Smooth. And even just walking left, right, left, right, brought me to tears, because it’s so much more complicated than you can imagine.”
Describing the routine, Amber went on: “You’re not allowed to take your foot off the floor, you have to drag your heel, you have to keep your frame, you have to look out…
“When you think about your head, you forget your feet, when you think about your feet… you have to engage every single muscle in your body and it’s exhausting, it’s exhausting, but I’m trying!”
Showering his famous dance partner with compliments, Nikita, 27, affectionately declared: “Honestly, the best student I’ve ever had.
“She’s so hardworking, genuinely, to me, it’s mind blowing!”, he added, revealing that Amber keeps a notebook filled with notes for home practice.
Amber spoke about her dedication, saying: “I’ve been given this opportunity, obviously it came so quickly, I never thought I’d experience Strictly so I’m really going to put in the work!
“I don’t want to let Nikita down, he’s had a rollercoaster just as much as me, emotionally coming in. He’s had two [celebrity] partners this year!”.
This weekend, viewers can look forward to Amber and Nikita performing an American Smooth to Sixteen Going on Seventeen from The Sound of Music.
Strictly Come Dancing continues on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
