Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has been under growing pressure after a slow start to the new season, but co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe hinted that he will give him more time
Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has suggested he will afford Ruben Amorim additional time, despite mounting pressure on the manager.
The Red Devils have endured an inconsistent start to the campaign and currently find themselves in 10th position in the table.
They head into the second international break of the season on a positive note, having emerged as 2-0 victors against Sunderland in their most recent match. It’s momentum they’ll be eager to maintain when they face rivals Liverpool at Anfield after the two-week break.

Despite the season being just seven matches old, there has been considerable speculation surrounding Amorim’s future, particularly following last season’s disappointing 15th-place finish.
The manager received substantial backing in the transfer market, with approximately £200million spent on fresh recruits.
Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko were amongst those who secured moves to Old Trafford during the summer window. It represents significant transfer activity that Ratcliffe is hoping will bear fruit.
The United co-owner spoke to The Times’ The Business Podcast, where Amorim’s future came under discussion. Here’s what he had to say.
On ‘knee-jerk’ reactions
“The press, sometimes I don’t understand,” he said. “They want overnight success.
“They think it’s a light switch. You know, you flick a switch and it’s all going to be roses tomorrow. You can’t run a club like Manchester United on knee-jerk reactions to some journalist who goes off on one every week.”
On Glazers
Delving into his relationship with the Glazers, Ratcliffe stated that the family are happy for him to take the reins. “That probably sums it up,” he said.
“We’re local, and they’re the other side of the pond. That’s a long way away to try and manage a football club as big and as complex as Manchester United. We’re here with feet on the ground.”
When questioned about what he would do if the Glazers instructed him to dismiss Amorim, he responded: “It’s not going to happen.”
Hinting at Amorim’s future.
Ratcliffe described Amorim as “a good guy” before dropping a hint about his future.
“He has not had the best of seasons,” he admitted. “Ruben needs to demonstrate he is a great coach over three years. That’s where I would be.”
