Love Island star and VAWG activist Sharon Gaffka shockingly revealed that she received ‘horrific’ messages from cruel trolls who compared her serial baby killer Lucy Letby
Love Island star Sharon Gaffka revealed that she was ‘horrifically’ compared to baby killer Lucy Letby after she candidly opened up about her abortion.
The 29-year-old, who featured on the ITV dating show in 2021, dedicates much of her time advocating for the safety of women and girls.
Sharon, an award-winning VAWG (Violence Against Women and Girls) activist, often opens about her life, in aim to lessen the stigma for others going through similar experiences. However, when she shed light on having an abortion – which she says is the “hardest decision” she’s ever made – Sharon faced an onslaught of abuse.
Former civil servant Sharon bravely shared that cruel trolls likened her to former neonatal nurse and child serial killer Letby, who is serving 15 whole-life sentences for murdering seven babies and attempting to murder seven others in her care, after sharing her personal story with her 321,000 Instagram followers in June.
The activist, and host of ‘Girls Know Nothing’ podcast, spoke candidly about her decision to have an abortion on ‘Her Discussions’ podcast with Dr Faye Bate, as reported by NeedToKnow.
Sharon shockingly confessed: “I had someone call me Lucy Letby 2.0. I had people threaten to dox me all because I had an abortion.
“I had to live with the emotional trauma of going through something so physical, and I had some horrific messages.
“So when people sit there and say ‘you took the easy way out’, trust me, it was not easy.”
The Love Island star continued: “It’s still the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make. Regardless of whether it was the ‘right’ decision or not, it was 100% the right decision.
“I don’t regret it at all.” On the podcast, Dr Bate responded: “One in three women will get an abortion in their lifetime.
“This isn’t some niche thing that’s going on, and it’s always gone on. Before it was legal, it’s gone on unsafely behind closed doors.”
Sharon also disclosed in January that she suffered a miscarriage during the first trimester of her pregnancy, just months after leaving the Love Island villa.
On Saturday (October 11), Sharon took to Instagram to raise awareness for Baby Loss Awareness Week.
She penned: “This week is baby loss awareness week, and I wasn’t sure whether to post this, but both my miscarriage and my abortion have shaped me in ways I’m still learning to understand.
“Both were losses. Both changed me. Both deserve compassion.
“It’s complicated, grief, guilt, relief, and love are all sitting side by side. If you’ve been through any kind of baby loss, please know you’re not alone in it.”
Her fans expressed their gratitude for her openness, with many being able to relate to Sharon’s experiences. One follower commented: “Sharon you are incredible and I am forever in awe of you.”
Another wrote: “Sending you love. “Thank you for sharing your story, it will help someone more than you ever realise.”
While a third said: “You are incredible. This is such an important conversation that will help so many people.”
A fourth person said: “Thank you for sharing your story which will help so many women out there.”
