Strictly will be back on BBC One next week and fans will see a number of famous faces taking to the dancefloor
Alex Kingston has confessed she had to “really think” about whether she could do Strictly but ultimately decided to take part for older women.
The ER actress celebrated her 62nd birthday this year, making her amongst the eldest competitors in the line-up for the fresh series of the BBC ballroom spectacular, which starts next week.
She revealed to the Daily Mail that when the opportunity to appear on Strictly Come Dancing arose, she considered it carefully, reports Wales Online.
She also sought advice from her actress mate Sarah Hadland – who was runner-up in the 2024 series – to discover what life on the dancefloor was genuinely like.

“I had to sit and really think about whether I would be up for it physically,” Alex revealed.
“But at the same time, I just felt like, ‘Come on, Alex, do it for women of a certain age’.”
Alex explained that she and Sarah, who was partnered with professional Vito Coppola last year, had both harboured the ambition of appearing on Strictly, prompting her to reach out.
She said Sarah “didn’t sugarcoat it” and told her that it could be “overwhelming” whilst also being an “incredibly positive thing”.
Ultimately, Alex chose to commit to a season of glitter and glamour and she will now grace the ballroom when Strictly launches next week.
The star, who is most famous for portraying Dr Elizabeth Corday in medical drama ER, joins fellow thespians Balvinder Sopal, Stefan Dennis and Lewis Cope as well as football legends Karen Carney and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink in the line-up.
TV personalities Thomas Skinner, Dani Dyer, Ross King and Vicky Pattison, model Ellie Goldstein, RuPaul’s Drag Race star La Voix, ex-England rugby union player Chris Robshaw, Gladiator Harry Aikines-Aryeetey and YouTube sensation George Clarke are also set to compete in the 2025 contest.
The judging panel will see the return of Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke, while Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman will resume their usual hosting roles.
Strictly Come Dancing 2025 kicks off on BBC One on Saturday, September 20.
