As investigations into Charlie Kirk’s killing continue, Donald Trump says he wants to see as harsh a punishment as possible for the person responsible — including death

President Donald Trump has demanded a harsh punishment for the person who assassinated Charlie Kirk. Mr Kirk — who was a key Trump ally — was shot in the neck as he spoke to students at Utah Valley University on Wednesday (September 10), dying at the age of 31.
Since then, police have launched an all-out investigation to find who was responsible for the assassination and arrested a 22-year-old suspect in relation to the shooting. On Friday (September 12), the FBI confirmed they had arrested Tyler Robinson in connection with the attack. However, investigations remain ongoing as officers work to establish what really happened that day.
Now, President Trump has said whoever is responsible for Mr Kirk’s murder should be given a harsh punishment for their actions. He even endorsed doling out the death penalty to the person found guilty.
Robinson was turned into police by his dad, Matt. The father claimed his son had confessed to him and ultimately alerted the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, with Robinson arrested by US Marshalls just moments later.
Now, speaking to Fox News, Trump has called for Robinson to face the death penalty if he is convicted of killing Mr Kirk. He said: “The father said, ‘we’ve got to go in’. He’s going to be found guilty I imagine, and I hope he gets the death penalty.
“Charlie Kirk was the finest person,” the president continued. “He didn’t deserve this; he worked so hard, and so well; everybody liked him.”
Robinson’s family claim he had become increasingly political in the years leading up to the alleged attack. Forensic investigators found a number of bullet casings that appeared to point towards his political inclinations.
One read: “Hey, fascist, catch!” A second one added: “If you read this, you are gay LMAO [laugh my a** off].”
A third casing also had inscribed on it words from the Italian partisan song ‘Bella Ciao’, used to fight back against fascists during World War 2. However, in recent days, it was revealed that Robinson had grown up in a Republic household who vehemently supported Trump’s presidency.
Grandmother Debbie told the Daily Mail Robinson was a quiet man, who never discussed politics with her. She did admit that Tyler had been raised in an environment using firearms, but insisted he was never one to use guns in any way such as hunting.
