Croc-loving bride spends hours bejewelling heeled clogs to walk down the aisle

EXCLUSIVE: Jenna Barnes said she chose to wear the rubber-like shoes on her big day as she finds high heels uncomfortable – she even bought matching pairs for her bridesmaids

A bride left guests shocked when she donned Crocs to walk down the aisle – and made her entire bridal party match her. Jenna Barnes, who wears Crocs daily, said she chose to wear the rubber-like shoes on her big day as she finds heels uncomfortable.

The 22-year-old bought a pair of bone-white high-heeled Crocs and spent hours painstakingly decorating them with individual jewels. The dental hygienist, who has 15 pairs of the shoes in her collection, even bought matching pairs of Crocs for her bridesmaids, admitting her Maid of Honour was initially unhappy with the choice of footwear but became a convert.

Despite reservations from some friends and family who tried to talk Jenna out of wearing them, she said they were all shocked to see how ‘amazing’ the shoes looked on the day.

Jenna wore the $65 high-heeled shoes throughout the ceremony but changed into a pair of regular white Crocs to dance in later in the evening.

Jenna, from Greater Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, said: “I’ve never been a high heel person, they’re always so uncomfy and I get blisters and I thought ‘I don’t want to do that’.

“I wear Crocs on the daily already. I saw they had high heel ones and they reminded me of Bratz dolls and thought they were so cute.

“The Crocs themselves were $65 and all the gems and glue were another $20-$30.

“I got the white ones and spent hours individually gluing all of those sparkles on to them. It took a long time.

“Some people said ‘really, are you going to wear Crocs to your wedding?’ But once they saw them, they were like ‘okay these look amazing’.

“Everyone knows me as wearing Crocs already, I thought ‘these are comfy, I want to wear them to my wedding’.

“I hate being the centre of attention so I didn’t look at anybody, I thought ‘this is horrible everyone is staring at me’.

“I wore them for the ceremony and I danced a little bit in them but then thought ‘no, I can’t do this.’ I had a second pair of regular Crocs that were just white and I swapped into those.

“It was easier to dance in and I didn’t feel like I would break my ankle.

“I would have worn regular Crocs but I’m quite short and all my bridesmaids are taller than me so the high heel ones were perfect and they were just as comfy, very solid and easy to walk in.

“I bought them all a pair of matching Crocs. My maid of honour was a little upset about the Crocs because she loves wearing high heels.

“I told her she could wear heels after the ceremony. She never switched, she kept the Crocs she said it was a great idea.”

While Jenna said guests found it funny, she now sees the Crocs as her most special pair yet and hopes to inspire other brides to make bold fashion choices.

Jenna said: “Everyone giggled at first but by the end everyone was saying ‘this was a great idea, my feet aren’t killing me.’ They all appreciated it.

“I’m never getting rid of them, they’re perfect.

“I loved the photos, I thought they were so cute, there’s some really funny ones. I cried my eyes out looking back at the pictures.”
