He was speaking with friends on social media platform Discord in the aftermath of the assassination after cops released a grainy image of the suspect. Robinson and his pals laughed at the resemblance he bore to the young man in the image in the warped chatter.
One person tagged him in a post alongside the FBI photo with the caption “wya”, meaning “where you at?”, along with a skull emoji.
The 22-year-old alleged gunman soon messaged back, joking that his “doppleganger” was on the run. Robinson claimed it must be a look-alike trying to “get me in trouble”.
“Tyler killed Charlie!!!,” another user posted. Robinson stands accused of shooting right-wing campaigner Kirk in the neck while speaking at a student debate event in Utah.
But while a manhunt was underway to find the killer, members of a group on Discord joked about turning Robinson in to try and claim the FBI’s $100,000 reward.
He replied: “Only if I get a cut.” Robinson was then arrested on Thursday night in Utah after his dad turned him in to the authorities and is expected to appear in court on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, it was announced yesterday that Charlie Kirk’s funeral will be held next Sunday at an American football stadium in Arizona and Donald Trump will attend.
The 31-year-old dad-of-two’s organisation Turning Point USA said on X: “Join us in celebrating the remarkable life and enduring legacy of Charlie Kirk, an American legend.
“The morning of Sunday, September 21, at State Farm Stadium, home of the Arizona Cardinals, in Glendale, AZ.”
