BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty was forced to announce some sad death news live on air during Saturday’s edition of the show and left viewers heartbroken
BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty had the unfortunate task of announcing some tragic death news live on air during Saturday’s episode of the show.
Naga and her co-host Charlie Stayt were back on the iconic red sofa, delivering the morning’s top stories to viewers, with Simon King in the studio providing the latest weather updates.
However, while sharing the day’s headlines, Naga took a moment to break the heartbreaking news. “14 minutes past six is the time,” Naga stated, before revealing: “The founding member of the band The Turtles, Mark Volman, has died at the age of 78,” as reported by the Express.
Following a snippet from one of their classic tunes, images of Mark were displayed on the screen.
She continued: “The band was known for the number-one hits Happy Together and Elenore. Volman passed away yesterday after a brief and unexpected illness, according to his representative.”
This wasn’t the only death announcement during the programme, as moments earlier, Charlie had confirmed that a man in Australia had tragically died following a shark attack, reports the Mirror.
He informed viewers: “A surfer has died near Sydney after being bitten by what is believed to have been a large shark.
“It’s the first fatal shark attack near the city since 2022. The attack occurred at a beach just north of Sydney, which is popular with swimmers.
“Emergency services were called after reports that a man had suffered critical injuries. He died shortly after being brought to shore.”
Over on BBC Breakfast, Naga and Charlie chatted with their guest, Adam Ball, who was diagnosed with a life-limiting condition and given “30 years to live”.
At the start of the programme, Naga declared, “Given 30 years to live after being diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, how Adam Ball is defying predictions and marking his birthday by swimming the length of the Lake District’s largest lakes.”
