Wrexham are reportedly interested in signing Monza defender Andrea Carboni, who has also been linked with a move to the MLS with LAFC before the transfer deadline
Wrexham’s summer rebuild looks set to continue right up until Monday’s transfer deadline, with the Red Dragons now reportedly eyeing another former Serie A defender after already securing Empoli’s Liberato Cacace.
Phil Parkinson’s squad is believed to be monitoring Monza centre-back Andrea Carboni, though they may encounter fierce rivalry from LAFC, the new club of Tottenham legend Son Heung-Min.
Both the Championship outfit and the MLS side have allegedly expressed “interest” in the ex-Italy Under-21 international in recent weeks, with the newly-relegated Italian club having rejected bids for the 24 year old, according to Nicolo Schira.
Should Wrexham, co-owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, press ahead with their chase for Carboni, he could potentially slot into a revamped backline featuring fellow newcomers Cacace, former England international Joe Rodon, and ex-Manchester City prospect Callum Doyle.

Furthermore, Carboni might not represent their final piece of business, should they persuade the Italian to relocate, with Parkinson recently acknowledging that the Red Dragons have also been tracking Welsh international midfielder Jordan James at French outfit Rennes. Wrexham could do with strengthening their defence, having let in seven goals in their first three Championship matches, resulting in two losses and a draw, reports the Mirror US.
Despite reaching the third round of the EFL Cup, Parkinson’s team has already conceded five goals across two legs, forcing the Red Dragons to stage late comebacks.
Carboni could be a valuable addition, bringing with him experience from Italy’s top two leagues since graduating from the Cagliari academy.
After three seasons with Cagliari’s first team, he moved to Monza in 2022 following his side’s demotion to Serie B. He spent three seasons at Monza, including a six-month loan spell at Venezia, before they too were relegated to the second tier after finishing last in Serie A in 2025.
It seems Carboni’s departure is very much on the cards, despite Monza’s initial reluctance, given that he was benched for their Italy Cup opener and not included in the squad for their first match back in Serie B.
A move within Italy could still happen, with his former club Cagliari and other Serie A teams such as Parma, Hellas Verona, Lecce, Torino, Genoa, and Cremonese reportedly interested, according to Schira, Orazio Accomando, and Alfredo Pedulla. Meanwhile, Monza’s Serie B rivals Sampdoria have also been suggested as a potential destination.
However, if Carboni were to be lured by the allure of Los Angeles, he would instantly find himself in a title race with the Black and Gold, who currently sit fifth in the Western Conference. With 41 points from 25 games, Steve Cherundolo’s team is 12 points adrift of leaders San Diego FC, but they have three games in hand over the league newcomers.
In theory, LAFC could offer a highly competitive salary, given that they have a Designated Player roster spot available alongside Son and Denis Bouanga.
