Tommy Fury has opened up about fatherhood and what he wants for his daughter Bambi’s future, who he welcomed with Molly-Mae Hague in 2023
Tommy Fury has confessed he’s imposing a restriction on one element of Bambi’s future – though it might not be stepping foot in the Love Island villa.
The boxer, 26, soared to fame when he appeared on the reality dating programme in 2019, where he met Molly-Mae Hague.
The duo became the programme’s greatest triumph, bringing daughter Bambi into the world in 2023 and becoming engaged shortly afterwards.
Fans were stunned in August last year when the couple revealed their separation after five years together, with Tommy’s battle with drink subsequently emerging as the reason behind their relationship’s collapse.
Nevertheless, they’ve now reignited their romance and seem to be addressing their issues, with Tommy preparing to lay everything bare in an upcoming BBC documentary series, reports OK!.
Tommy: The Good. The Bad. The Fury. will reveal his journey as a fighter whilst he strives to prove himself in the ring, whilst providing an intimate glimpse into his role as a father and his battles with alcohol.
Before the series launches, Tommy spoke candidly about how booze had recently affected his existence and his bond with Molly-Mae, alongside discussing parenthood.
Pondering his meteoric rise and whether he’d permit Bambi to pursue his path into the entertainment world, Tommy revealed: “That is a scary thing. I don’t know, I look at her every single day and I don’t know what she’s going to be.”
He pondered her potentially becoming a vet after she inherited his passion for animals, saying: “As long as she grows up with manners and respect for everybody, I don’t care what she does.
“I love her regardless and I’ll always be by her side until the moment I take my last breath and I’m already immensely proud of her.
“I couldn’t be any more proud of her, even if she went on to be the Prime Minister, it won’t make me any more proud.”
He then revealed: “Boxing is going to be a firm no from me. I know the boxing game and I know the amount of black eyes you get, the amount of bloody noses you get, the amount of nights spent in A&E. She doesn’t need to do that.”
When questioned about what he’d say if Bambi chose to appear on Love Island in years to come, Tommy joked: “I don’t know – you’re scaring me now!
“We live in a crazy world, and like I said, as long as she’s got her manners, and she’s got respect and she knows right from wrong, I’ll support her till the day she dies, whatever she wants to do.”
Contemplating fatherhood and his hopes for the future, Tommy – who admitted he’s eager for more children – revealed he simply wants to “succeed as a father”.
“That overshadows the rest of it by a mile. If I can succeed at being a father and my kids can grow up saying ‘My dad was there for me, I’m proud of my dad, and I love the man he is,’ that will make me happier than any money or accolades, that’s the only accolade I want now. I’ve achieved everything else that I wanted to, just being a good father.”
Alongside revealing his battles with alcohol and his struggle to return to the boxing ring in the BBC documentary series, the cameras offer a glimpse into Tommy’s domestic life with Bambi.
He revealed: “I didn’t want Bambi to feel the weight of this documentary. I didn’t want her to come in the house and there’d be a massive camera team there, production, whatever.
“There was nothing staged for me and Bambi, like everything you see with me and Bambi is completely natural and what we’d normally do, and the camera just picked it up.
“So every scene I’m getting her ready for nursery, for soft play, putting her to bed, and whatever you may see there, that’s what we’d normally do.
“Nothing’s changed because Molly and I did things to get this life but Bambi hasn’t made that choice yet. She shouldn’t be plastered and made to do this and that, and I only include Bambi where I see fit in this.”
He continued: “I didn’t know how I was going to take fatherhood, I’m a young kid, I was 23 when she was born and there was a lot going on. But as soon as she was born and I held her in my arms, nothing else mattered.
“And that’s the only feeling I ever had because going into every fight, I think maybe if I lost this fight my world would cave in, there’d be nothing left, but now, it’s like, god forbid if the worst were to happen, I’d still have her.”
Tommy went on to say: “She’s the best thing in my life 10 times over and I just want to be a dad now that she can be proud of, I think that’s the biggest thing moving forward, and I owe it to her and Molly and everybody to just be the best version of myself that I can really.”
Tommy: The Good. The Bad. The Fury airs Tuesday, August 19 at 9pm on BBC Three and will be available to watch on BBC iPlayer
