The 27-year-old and his pal, who are both from Ireland, were walking back to their accomodation in the early hours of Sunday morning after a night out in Italy when horror struck
An Irish lad is in a critical condition in an Italian hospital after he was injured while reportedly playing a game of chicken with cars. The 27-year-old man sustained severe injuries after being hit head-on by a Porsche near Lake Garda in Northern Italy in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Italian reports suggest that he and a mate, also from Ireland, were heading back to their accommodation around 2.30am after a night out when they began playing a game of chicken.
This involved them darting from the pavement onto the road as cars approached, ensuring they narrowly missed the vehicles at the last moment. However, it’s reported that the Irishman, who has not been identified, lost his footing during the game and was struck head-on by a Porsche.
The incident occurred at Gardone Riviera, near Lake Garda and approximately 30kms north-east of Brescia. Reports indicate that the German driver of the Porsche passed a roadside breathalyser test and was within the speed limit at the time of the accident, which resulted in a smashed windscreen, reports the Irish Mirror.
Emergency services rushed to the scene and the Irishman was airlifted to a hospital in Brescia. Media reports state that although he was seriously injured, his life is not in danger.
The reports also mentioned that police are conducting a reconstruction of the incident to ascertain what exactly transpired.
The probe has also verified that the incident was not a social media dare: no posts or videos of any sort were discovered online.
In a separate incident, Aamechanic tragically lost his life when the axle stand he was using to work on his own car collapsed, an inquest heard. Daniel Burton was found trapped under the vehicle and despite heroic efforts by neighbours to lift the car off him and emergency services rushing to the scene, they were unable to save him.
The 27 year old father of two was a passionate footballer, playing for several clubs including Cilfrew most recently, and had a deep love for cars. As a young lad, he was described as “happy go lucky” and “a likeably cheeky chap”, who preferred hands-on tasks over desk jobs, according to Wales Online.
After leaving St Joseph’s School, the Cardiff City fan trained as a motor technician. At the time of his untimely death, he was working at KandJ Motors in Pencoed and was just a week away from earning his MoT testing qualification.
