The North Korean dictator even has a secret base near China that could shoot missiles towards the US, sparking worries that nuclear disarmament is a distant hope
Kim Jong Un has been supervising a new “long range” missile system and celebrating troops fighting for Russia as “heroes”, sparking new WW3 fears. The dictator oversaw the testing of two new types of weapons, the state’s propaganda media said today.
One is a system that can control the flight of 24 missiles simultaneously whilst in flight, guiding them to intercept 24 separate targets. North Korea has a secret base near China with missiles that could reach the US, according to a new report. These weapons work in “long range”, and are thought to be three times more powerful than others.
The intercontinental ballistic missiles likely to be housed at the military base “pose a potential nuclear threat to East Asia and the continental United States,” researchers said. Earlier this week Kim Jong Un also hailed his troops, saying they displayed the “fighting spirit of heroes” while on the front line in Ukraine.
Soldiers who had returned from Russia were honoured with a concert and relatives of troops killed in action were among those to attend a banquet.
He laid a flower at a memorial as a public display of gratitude, as over 1000 of his soldiers have died fighting alongside the Russians.
The South Korean and US militaries, on the other hand, are carrying out joint military drills.
Kim Jong Un is no stranger to stirring up fears of WW3, with the leader often seen showing support for Putin.
He has repeatedly dismissed calls by Seoul and the US to restart negotiations to wind down nuclear weapons and missile programmes – and yet he prioritises his Moscow allies.
He said this week that North Korea has “the most powerful army in the world”, boasting about his military in response to the US and South Korea’s drills.
“It is because our army is made up of the sons whose lives were given by our heroic people and who have been raised by them.”
Kim Jong Un paid tribute to North Korean soldiers killed while fighting for Russia, saying his “heart aches” over the losses.
He was also photographed pinning badges on the photo frames of deceased soldiers, which lined the wall, with each soldier’s name written in gold beneath their image.
