Jessie J delivered an emotional speech at Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball, encouraging fans to “live more” and show “empathy” following her battle with breast cancer.
Jessie J reflected on her challenging year after sharing fears that her cancer could return. The popstar delivered her final show-stopping performance of the year at Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball and encouraged the audience to “live more” in an incredibly touching moment.
She said: “A lot of this stuff is smoke and mirrors, all of this stuff, what really matters is who we are behind the camera, and what we do in our lives when we wake up in the day.
“And before I sing this song I just want to remind everyone, because I’ve learnt a lot this year, I’ve learnt to slow down and be more present, I’ve learnt to live more in the moment and I’ve learnt to know that life is not promised in the way that we might want it to be.
“But challenges are there to teach us, to help us, to get to know ourselves deeper. In this very moment I want you to turn to someone you came with tonight and tell them you love them.
“Do that more often guys, life is for living.”
It was a full circle moment for Jessie as only six months prior she had performed at Capital’s Summertime Ball just days after her diagnosis and told the crowd that she would be taking some time away to “beat breast cancer”.
Her performance comes after she recently shared worries that the cancer may return: “I’ve been really lucky, super lucky, to find it so early. It wasn’t invasive, thank god. I know there’s a chance it could come back but until then we’re living life.”
Jessie, back with new album Don’t Tease Me With A Good Time, has also encouraged fans to lead with “empathy and kindness”.
Other acts to perform at London’s O2 Arena for Jingle Bell Ball included Louis Tomlinson.
The former One Direction star also shared a teary moment with the audience when he paid homage to Liam Payne with a moving performance of Drag Me Down.
Before starting the song the 33-year-old asked the crowd to “sing this one with me” and the arena filled with their voices whilst Louis remained silent during Liam’s part.
Fans pointed out that Louis appeared emotional during the song, even repeatedly looking up to the ceiling.
