Sports star Mark Sanchez was arrested in hospital after being admitted after he was allegedly involved in an altercation between him and a delivery driver which left him stabbed
An ex-NFL star has been arrested in hospital after he was allegedly stabbed during a row with a food delivery driver. Mark Sanchez, 38, was blue-lighted to hospital after the dispute with the 69-year-old delivery driver which left the sports legend fighting for his life.
He is now stable, but it has now been revealed he has been detained in hospital on suspicion of battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication. And police audio leaked to TMZ reveals how cops came to terms with the confusing situation.
In the clip, cops can be heard confirming that someone had been stabbed, and another medic and police car is required for back-up. It’s reported that the altercation happened near Loughmiller’s Pub & Eatery in Indianapolis, according to the Daily Mail.
A police officer can be heard saying to “treat it as a crime scene, we don’t want anybody in or out for now” and a cop can also be heard asking for the bar to be “locked down.”
Authorities also confirmed that someone was taken into custody, and that the patient is “critical right now.” This is believed to be Mark Sanchez. After his arrest, police said the sports star is still in hospital, and has not been booked yet.
The former Jets quarterback was in Indianapolis to call Sunday’s NFL game between the Colts and Raiders for Fox. According to a police report, the alleged victim told cops that he was trying to deliver food, when the Fox Sports commentator told him he needed to move his vehicle and couldn’t park where he was.
The ex-NFL star is accused of allegedly threatening, following and attacking the man who tried, and failed to pepper spray him. It was at this point, the delivery driver claimed he defended himself with a knife.
In response to the events, Chief Chris Bailey of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said: “Proud of our IMPD officers and detectives who stayed focused on our mission and not the noise.
“Their professionalism represents the best of our department. IMPD will continue to be a steady, reliable presence in our city because our community deserves nothing less.”
On Saturday, Fox Sports PR said in a statement: “Mark Sanchez was injured in Indianapolis on Saturday and is currently recovering in the hospital in stable condition.
“We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time.”
