The wild world of Russian and Ukrainian secret agents has now seen a ‘babushka’ attempting to carry out an assassination before Vladimir Putin’s agents pounced on ‘her’
A “Russian babushka” has been caught trying to assassinate the head of a defence company by Putin’s secret service. Now, while this seems like something that happens every day in Russia, it turns out that the truth of this is actually far from the norm.
CCTV footage released by Russian officials appears to show an elderly lady walking up to the side of a black SUV said to belong to a high-profile, unnamed Russian defence company leader.
The clips show her appearing to bend down out of view, which is where she is said to have placed a bomb under the car.
Another clip shows the rectangular bomb underneath the vehicle, while a further clip shows the elderly lady – or babushka, if you will – hobbling through a park as two people run full-pelt towards her, before she is then seen being bundled into the back of a car.
She was later taken out of the boot of the car and arrested . . . which is when the story takes a wild turn.
It then turned out that the elderly lady is actually a member of the Ukrainian Secret Service (or SBU as they call it) and two other agents were also arrested for attempting to carry out the mad assassination plot in St Petersburg, Russia.
According to Russian news outlet Baza, more explosives were found in a nearby cemetery . . . and the babushka was actually revealed to be a man, who was also quite old although his age has not been revealed.
Baza claimed: “He dressed as a pensioner for cover and attempted to plant a bomb under the defense industry company’s executive’s car, but was detained. All three have now confessed, and investigators are working with them.”
No names for the trio have been made public, nor has the reason behind the assassination attempt.
The arrests come 24 hours after the SBU announced that a Russian agent couple were detained for setting up “video traps” in high-rise buildings.
The video traps consisted of 4G cameras that are capable of hacking into missiles and drones with the purpose of changing their direction.
The agent pair were also found to have rented Ukrainian apartments using FSB money in Kyiv and Chernihiv, so that they could get to the rooftops and place the cameras, Ukraine has claimed.
An SBU spokesman said: “Counter-intelligence of the Security Service has detained two more FSB agents who adjusted the Russian Federation’s air strikes on Kyiv. To direct enemy attacks, the attackers installed 4G cameras with remote access for the occupiers.”
