Ricky Hatton was found dead at his home in Greater Manchester on Sunday 14 September and just days before his death, the boxer was filmed in public by an excited fan
Ricky Hatton was caught on camera just days before his tragic death.
The beloved boxer was found dead at his Greater Manchester home at the age of 46 on 14 September. In his final days, Ricky was soaking up the remaining summer sunshine in Tenerife and heartwarming footage shows the sporting icon attempting to sing Oasis in a local pub.
Carly Leahy and her two youngsters popped to a bar in Costa Adeje in early September when they clocked the celebrity. A guitarist was performing on stage when he invited a punter up to tackle a version of Oasis’ Wonderwall.
She filmed the moment and posted it online, capturing Ricky’s unique take on the classic lyrics. He was meant to croon: “By now, you should have somehow realised what you’ve got to do” but instead appeared to sing: “Somehow, you should have somehow [inaudible] what you’ve got to do,” reports the Mirror.
Then, rather than delivering: “And all the roads we have to walk are winding” he warbled: “And all the roads that lead us there are winding and all the lights that lead us there are blinding”.
Carly told Manchester Evening News: “He attempted to hit those notes but he definitely messed up the words. I was surprised he didn’t know them by heart because I remember Oasis going to his fights back in the day.”
Carly then shared how “kind” Ricky was to his fans who wanted to meet him: “Afterwards, he was so patient and kind to everyone who approached him, so that was quite nice. The kids were over the moon to see him. Some people have really gone in on him, but he was on his holiday, enjoying himself,” she said.
Ricky was tragically found dead at his home in Greater Manchester on 14 September and Greater Manchester Police confirmed the discovery of a body, stating that the death is not being treated as suspicious.
The devastating news arrived just months after the boxer announced his return to the ring with a fight scheduled for December.
A spokesperson for GMP said: “We can confirm that we have found a body at an address on Bowlacre Road in Gee Cross at 6.45am today, Sunday, September 14. The death is not being treated as suspicious.”
