Manchester United are hoping to wrap up a hectic transfer deadline day on Monday with a flurry of deals and the Red Devils are looking to bring in at least one new goalkeeper
Manchester United supporters, strap in for a hectic transfer deadline day. Having splashed out £207.5million on their attack, the Red Devils are now turning their attention to strengthening their defence and midfield before Monday’s 7pm deadline.
United aim to end the summer transfer window as swiftly as they began it, having welcomed Matheus Cunha in a £62.5million move from Wolves as early as June 1. Cunha’s arrival at Old Trafford was quickly followed by the signing of Bryan Mbeumo, with United finally agreeing to a £71m deal with Brentford after weeks of tense negotiations.
Following Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko was brought on board in a deal that could rise to £74m, rounding off a revamped forward line for Ruben Amorim. Despite these additions, scoring goals from open play has been a challenge in the early stages of the 2025-26 season, but it’s conceding them that has really hurt United.
The Red Devils have yet to keep a clean sheet, and the blame has often fallen on the goalkeeper. That’s why Amorim is keen to sign at least one new shot-stopper – and to finally clear out a surplus of unwanted players.
Here are seven deals that United are hoping to seal before the transfer window closes, reports the Mirror.
Ins
First on the list is United’s most pressing concern: the goalkeeper position. Altay Bayindir has featured in every Premier League match so far but hasn’t impressed, while Andre Onana’s performance at Grimsby was nothing short of disastrous.
So, the Red Devils have set their sights on Senne Lammens. An enhanced offer was submitted to Royal Antwerp on Sunday and United are hopeful of securing the 23 year old Belgian’s signature, with the deal expected to exceed £20million.
However, as a backup plan, the Red Devils have re-engaged with Aston Villa over Emiliano Martinez, who has already agreed personal terms. The 32 year old Argentina international is far more experienced than Lammens, who could potentially replace him at Villa, but would come with a significantly higher price tag.
Lammens and Martinez aren’t the only keepers on United’s radar. Abdulla Al-Hammadi, a former Everton trialist, has been trialling at Old Trafford over the summer, training with the club’s academy.
The MEN reports that 20 year old Al-Hammadi, originally from the UAE, has impressed staff and is set to be signed to the academy. As a free agent, Al-Hammadi doesn’t need to be signed before the deadline.
Outs
Following in the footsteps of ex-United star Scott McTominay, Rasmus Hojlund is looking to reignite his career at Napoli. The 22-year-old Hojlund is set to join the Serie A champions on loan for the season, netting United £5m, before a £38m obligation to buy comes into effect next summer.
Another Red Devil who revived his career away from Old Trafford is Antony – though he remains at United. The 25 year old Brazilian has been hoping for a return to Real Betis throughout the summer, and just when it appeared progress was being made, the Spanish club pulled their offer.
Following Betis going public with their stance, it’s now reached an impasse. “There is no agreement for Antony and we have withdrawn the offer,” the club stated.
“We can’t afford the fee and the amounts that Manchester United must instead pay the player before the transfer.”
In contrast to Antony, there’s been considerably less speculation about Jadon Sancho’s potential exit. Chelsea decided against making the English winger’s move permanent, leaving him in the final year of his deal.
Roma have been chasing Sancho, 25, but he remains unconvinced so far. Late on Sunday, reports surfaced that the former Borussia Dortmund star was in Villa’s sights, with the club having endured a dismal start to the campaign.
Regarding players in the bomb squad – which previously included the now departed Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho – Tyrell Malacia is looking for an exit. Elche opened discussions last week but nothing concrete is on the horizon at present.
Another left-back, Harry Amass, is also set to depart but on loan. Amass is anticipated to finalise a season-long temporary switch to Sheffield Wednesday.
