Mohamed Salah’s petulant TV outburst against Arne Slot has been blamed on a Liverpool team-mate, who reportedly sent the 33-year-old ‘into a rage’

Florian Wirtz has been blamed as the reason for Mohamed Salah’s recent outburst, according to reports. The football world was left stunned when the Egyptian superstar criticised Liverpool and manager Arne Slot following last Saturday’s 3-3 draw with Leeds United.

Salah, 33, slammed the Reds for making him a scapegoat for their woeful Premier League title defence and claimed his once strong relationship with Slot had soured. As a result of his remarks, the winger was left out of Liverpool’s squad for their 1-0 Champions League victory over Inter Milan on Tuesday.

A report from BILD shockingly suggests that Wirtz’s emergence as the future star of the team is at the heart of Salah’s discontent.

The report also labelled the forward as a divisive figure within the Reds’ dressing room. Salah’s position on the bench in the last three league matches, with the German starting in all of them, has reportedly upset the Egyptian.

Liverpool are believed to have long recognised that Salah has the largest ego at the club, but given his remarkable record of goals and assists, it was tolerated. However, the report added that if the winger’s productivity declines, the backing he receives from the club will disappear.

The report goes on to suggest that his harsh criticism of the club demonstrates a disregard for his teammates, highlighted by his refusal to speak out against the backlash Wirtz has faced during what has been a poor beginning to his Anfield journey.

Although it’s been just eight months since Salah penned a new two-year contract extending his Liverpool stay until 2027, questions remain over whether the club legend has worn the red shirt for the final time.

Liverpool’s massive £450million summer spending spree appeared designed to provide Salah with additional attacking support, helping the club’s record Premier League goalscorer prolong his career.

Yet the disappointing performances of big-money signings Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak on Merseyside have stripped Liverpool of the attacking fluency that powered them to a league triumph just months earlier.

During Jamie Carragher’s eight-minute tirade on Monday Night Football about Salah’s post-Leeds remarks, the Sky Sports analyst claimed Salah “let himself down” by choosing not to set up Wirtz for what would have been a simple tap-in during the 5-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in October.

Carragher stated: “Where he really let himself down, in my eyes, was this season in Frankfurt and in another game. Where there’s a guy who signed for Liverpool who needs a goal more than anyone, Florian Wirtz.

“Instead of being a great player for the club, be a great ambassador for the club and roll that ball to him for an easy tap-in and go over and give him a hug and say, ‘You’re the guy that’s going to take this Liverpool team forward. I don’t need anymore goals’.”
