There was a big police presence and schools were placed on lockdown following reports by worried locals of a man walking with firearms, but cops eventually discovered he just had harmless toys
A number of schools were put on lockdown following a significant police operation in response to a firearms scare. Officers from the New South Wales Police were alerted to an incident in Beaumont Hills, Sydney at approximately 10.24am local time on Monday, November 24, following reports from worried locals. As a safety measure, several nearby schools were put into lockdown.
Images captured at the scene reveal a substantial police presence as officers initiated a thorough search of the area. Residents were advised to steer clear of the vicinity while investigations were underway.
Officers managed to engage with the individual involved and confirmed that the supposed firearms were actually harmless toys. Shortly after midday, police announced the conclusion of the operation and the lifting of the school lockdowns, reports the Mirror.
A spokesperson for the New South Wales Police stated: “A police operation at Beaumont Hills has concluded. About 10.24am today (Monday 24 November 2025), police were called to Guardian Avenue following reports a person was seen walking along the footpath carrying firearms.
“Police commenced a large search of the area and, following inquiries, were able to speak to the person and established the firearms seen were toys that had been picked up from a local cleanup. Several nearby schools were placed into lockdown as a precaution.
“Those lockdowns have since been lifted. Police treat all reports seriously and thank the community for their assistance.”
