Manchester United have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi, with the Germany international said to be planning to leave the Bundesliga giants
Manchester United’s hopes of securing Borussia Dortmund star Karim Adeyemi have been significantly boosted, with reports suggesting the forward is actively plotting his exit.
The German ace has long been on the Red Devils’ radar as they seek to bolster their attacking line-up under Ruben Amorim. While a deal for Adeyemi has so far remained elusive, the tide could be about to turn with the January transfer window just weeks away – especially given that the 23 year old appears to have made up his mind to part ways with Dortmund.
According to Bild, Adeyemi is keen to leave the club at the end of the season, with contract renewal discussions having reached an impasse. However, Dortmund have reportedly valued him at £70 million.
The forward’s current contract extends until 2027 and he will only commit to a new deal if it includes a release clause – a condition that the German heavyweights are unwilling to meet.
This could prompt Dortmund to cash in on Adeyemi rather than risk losing him on a free transfer in a year and a half.
It’s also suggested that the striker has inked a deal with super agent Jorge Mendes, with negotiations already in progress with United and Inter Milan regarding a potential move.
Adeyemi made the switch to Dortmund from Austrian outfit Red Bull Salzburg in 2022 and has netted 29 goals in 121 appearances.
Whether United can clinch a deal for Adeyemi remains to be seen, although the Red Devils seem eager to strengthen their midfield first.
Several high-profile targets have already been pinpointed, including Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson and Atletico Madrid’s Conor Gallagher.
The Red Devils have consistently emphasised their commitment to strengthening the squad under Amorim’s leadership.
“We have got a clear plan,” stated Man United’s technical director Jason Wilcox in an interview with the club’s website last month.
“We know what we have got to do, we know the areas of the team that we have got to improve.
“For us to get in the top four and consistently challenge for Champions League places, win Champions Leagues, win Premier Leagues, we have got to invest in the squad.
“We have got to buy the right players. The right players who are talented but also who can deal with the pressure, who can take the squad forward.”
