EXCLUSIVE: Armin van Buuren revealed he was left in tears during a surreal collab, as he gears up for four huge final Ushuaïa Ibiza shows after taking the club by storm this summer
World famous DJ Armin van Buuren may be one of the biggest names in dance music, but even the most experienced DJs can still be moved to tears.
The Dutch superstar revealed that one of his most surreal career highlights came in Miami while working alongside American singer-songwriter Gavin DeGraw.
“Honestly one of the most surreal moments for me was being in the studio in Miami with Gavin DeGraw,” Armin exclusively said. “We were working on Looking For Your Name, and when the track was finished, I actually cried, it was just so beautiful and emotional hearing it come together. To share a room with someone whose music I’ve admired for so long and then feel that overwhelmed by the result was definitely a pinch-me kind of moment.”
It’s rare to hear a DJ of his calibre speak so openly, but it’s clear that music still affects him on the deepest level. That same passion is what he’s now bringing to his Ushuaïa Ibiza 2025 residency, which he describes as a dream come true.
“It’s amazing to be back there! Ibiza is my home away from home, and Ushuaïa Ibiza is just an amazing place to perform at. Couldn’t be happier having been able to have another summer residency there,” Armin said.
He’s also embraced the new deck-to-deck format being trialled at the venue this year: “It took some getting used to the new format, simply because it requires a different approach for both artists to be in sync. But it really adds a new dimension to collaborative performances, and I’ve had a blast every time I did it so far.”
With nearly three decades at the top of the global dance scene, Armin still remains hungry for more. He’s preparing for a run of four final shows at Ushuaïa this summer, culminating in a special four-hour closing set on September 28 — one of the most anticipated events of the Ibiza calendar.
“I love playing in Ibiza! I’ve played there the most and still love it so much,” he added. “I’ve got new music coming too, including some amazing collaborations with huge artists like Adam Beyer and many more I can’t reveal just yet.”
