Wetherspoon opening multiple new pubs in UK and working with major chip shop chain

Wetherspoon has unveiled plans for several new pubs this year as part of a new partnership with a well-known fish and chip shop chain

Wetherspoon is set to open three new pubs this month, with plans for more locations for later this year. The popular pub chain will be open two new London locations from September 30.

One of these, named The Sun Wharf, will take over the former site of the London Dungeon on Tooley Street, near London Bridge. It comes after Wetherspoon’s announcement of a partnership with fish and chips chain Papas to launch 15 new pubs. The first of these will open its doors in Gateway Park, Lincoln, on October 1 under the name The Hykeham Manor.

Three more will to follow in October and November in Annitsford, Northumberland, Stockton-on-Tees, Co Durham, and Emersons Green, Bristol. Wetherspoon will run the pubs as franchises under The Papas Group, which operates Papa’s Fish and Chips and also manages Wendy’s restaurants as franchises, the Mirror reports.

Wetherspoon’s commercial director, Michael Barron, expressed his delight at the partnership, saying: “We are delighted to have signed agreements with The Papas Group. We are looking at further opportunities and are confident that more franchise agreements will be signed.”

The pub chain now runs five locations under franchise arrangements with the holiday park company. These include its first on-site Wetherspoon establishment at Primrose Valley.
