A five-year-old girl, who is undergoing an autism diagnosis, has allegedly been stabbed in the head with a pencil by another child while at primary school in Australia
A five-year-old girl has been left “traumatised” after allegedly being stabbed in the head by another child at a primary school. The girl was allegedly attacked with a pencil by another classmate at St Philomena’s School in Moree in New South Wales, Australia, on September 17.
The girl’s mum, Eliza, told NewsWire that she needed treatment from paramedics at the school and that she was “covered in blood.”
She said: “Upon my arrival at the school, after being informed an ambulance had to be called for my daughter due to a large amount of blood coming from her head, the staff at the school refused to tell me how she sustained her injury.”
The girl, who had been undergoing an autism diagnosis, has been left “traumatised” by the alleged incident. Her mum said that despite working hard to be able to show up to school with her extra struggles, she is now “frightened” to return once the other child is allowed back.
She said: “My biggest fear is that she would become disengaged from school and have her education affected.”
Armidale Catholic Schools, of which St Philomena’s School is part of, released a statement confirming that it was “managing” the incident.
It read: “Armidale Catholic Schools is undertaking a review to determine next steps. This decision will be carefully and thoughtfully made considering multiple factors and the safety and best interests of all children in our care.
“Armidale Catholic Schools takes its responsibility to all children, families and staff very seriously. The safety of our students, staff and the community continues to be our priority.”
The school also confirmed that the child who allegedly stabbed the young girl will be “kept out” of the school until appropriate procedures had been followed.
