Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs was at his acquittal hearing on Thursday as he attempted to get his two Mann Act convictions thrown out and he had a message for his family
Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs turned to his loved ones to deliver a heartfelt “proud” declaration as he appeared in court. The fallen music mogul, 55, was at his appeal hearing on Thursday when he lavished his family with affection.
Diddy was trying to get his two Mann Act convictions overturned and after the day’s legal proceedings, it’s reported he swivelled towards the benches behind him, where his relatives were seated, to share an emotional message.
It’s understood Diddy addressed his family members, including his mum and six of his offspring, among others, to express how proud he is of them and that he adores them. According to TMZ, Combs particularly turned towards his mother Janice and blew her a kiss.
The publication reports he told her she looked beautiful before expressing gratitude to his family for standing by him.
He declared: “Every day, every hour I get closer to coming home” before giving the group a wave as he was escorted from the courtroom.
During the hearing, Combs’ legal team contended that prostitution only covers someone who compensates another person for sexual services.
They maintained it doesn’t cover someone who merely observes, as they allege their client did during the so-called “freak-offs”. His sentencing is scheduled for October 3.
The celebrity is facing a potential maximum of 20 years behind bars after being found guilty on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution, reports the Mirror.
Nevertheless, he has entered a not guilty plea and is reportedly challenging his conviction. In a recent legal document, his defence team has requested a more lenient sentence for the celebrity.
They’ve proposed supervised release coupled with compulsory drug treatment, therapy and group counselling. His lawyers argue that this would be “sufficient, but not greater than necessary”, and prosecutors have until 29 September to suggest a sentence.
During the widely covered two-month trial, the court heard how the founder of Bad Boy Records flew individuals across the country, including his girlfriends and paid male sex workers, to participate in sexual activities, a serious breach of the federal Mann Act.
He was cleared of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges, which were linked to accusations that he coerced his ex-girlfriends into drug-induced sexual encounters, referred to as ‘freak-offs. ‘.
At the time, Combs asked those present in the courtroom to pray for his family before the verdict was announced. Upon hearing the outcome, the musician dropped to his knees, head bowed in a chair.
It seemed as though he was praying once more after dodging a life sentence for the most severe charge in his case.
