Liverpool are said to be making “serious moves” to try and secure another massive signing in the January transfer window, this time from under the noses of rivals Manchester United
Liverpool have had a flawless start to the season under Arne Slot with four wins from four as the champions once again look like the team to beat in the race for the Premier League title.
Slot’s squad are top of the table with 12 points after after Mohamed Salah’s last-minute penalty secured them a victory against Burnley on Sunday. And now they are turning their attention to their bid to win a seventh European Cup, as Champions League football returns to Anfield with the visit of Atletico Madrid.
Even though the current season is still in its infancy and the transfer window has now closed, behind the scenes Liverpool are already gearing up for the January window. It seems the Reds have a number of potential targets lined up for the winter period – including a huge target for rivals Manchester United.
Ahead of another huge week for Liverpool with the Merseyside derby against Everton looming at the weekend, here’s all the latest news from Anfield.
Liverpool ‘to make move for Baleba’
Liverpool are reportedly preparing to swoop for Brighton star and Manchester United target Carlos Baleba.
The 21-year-old midfielder was a major target for the Red Devils during the summer window. However, United backed off after discovering his hefty £100million price tag. It now seems that Liverpool are among those vying for his signature, reports the Liverpool Echo.
According to transfer guru IndyKaila, Liverpool are making ‘serious moves’ to secure Baleba in the January window, making this a potential deal to watch closely.
Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler recently addressed the future of Baleba, stating: “I think it’s normal for a young player when the media creates the noise around him. It’s not easy for this player to handle it. Therefore we need to give him the time and support so he comes back to his best performance.
“But he’s a young player and I think that’s something we have to accept, that young players don’t always have the face we want to see. ‘It’s our responsibility to help them in the right moments.
“I think everyone gets affected, especially when you are that young and you hear these kinds of things, no matter if they are wrong or right. But it’s just noise we don’t need.”
Olise price set
Liverpool would have to fork out more than £100m if they wish to secure the services of Bayern Munich star Michael Olise.
According to Football Insider, the Reds are among several clubs eyeing the Frenchman. Olise is viewed as a potential replacement for Salah at Anfield.
However, any deal for him would come with a hefty price tag, reportedly exceeding £100m. Olise has just under four years remaining on his contract with Bayern Munich.
After a three-season spell at Crystal Palace, where he scored 16 goals and registered 25 assists, Olise joined Bayern in the summer of July 2024 for an initial £45million.
The move turned heads with the 23-year-old also courting significant interest from several Premier League clubs in recent times, including Manchester United.
