Netflix has announced the release date for an upcoming Christmas film, directed by Kate Winslet and written by her son.
Netflix fans are bracing themselves for a heart-wrenching Christmas film this year, with the streaming giant revealing its official release date.
Goodbye June unfolds just before Christmas when mother June’s (portrayed by Helen Mirren) health deteriorates, throwing her four estranged children and their irksome father into turmoil.
They’re not only grappling with their tangled relationships but also confronting the potential loss of the family’s matriarch.
June, described as “quick-witted”, navigates her decline on her own terms, armed with sharp humour, candid honesty, and abundant love.
With Christmas just around the corner, Netflix has now confirmed the film’s release date.

Goodbye June will initially hit select UK cinemas from Friday, 12 December.
Netflix subscribers will then have to hold out until Christmas Eve, Wednesday, 24 December, for the festive flick to land on the platform.
Though there’s a four-month wait until its grand premiere, Goodbye June is anticipated to be well worth the patience, particularly given its stellar cast.
Taking centre stage as June is the iconic actress Helen Mirren, who’s currently making a splash as Elizabeth Best in Netflix’s adaptation of Richard Osman’s The Thursday Murder Club.
She’ll be accompanied by Mr Turner and Harry Potter legend Timothy Spall portraying June’s spouse, alongside Hereditary’s Toni Collette, Lovesick’s Johnny Flynn, The Grudge star Andrea Riseborough and Titanic icon Kate Winslet as their quartet of siblings.
The supporting cast also features The Outlaws’ Stephen Merchant, Ted Lasso’s Jeremy Swift, Banana performer Fisayo Akinade and Code Black’s Raza Jaffrey.
Winslet, celebrated for her performances in films such as Revolutionary Road, Mare of Easttown, Lee and The Holiday, is taking the director’s chair for this production.
Speaking to Deadline, she reflected: “I think it just feels great to have directed my first film in the 50th year of my life as a woman. It feels good, it feels good.”
The project holds special significance for Winslet, as Goodbye June springs from a screenplay penned by her 21-year-old son Joe Anders.
Initially, he doubted the film would ever reach production, as Winslet revealed: “He was like ‘Mum, it’s not supposed to be a real thing’ and I was like ‘Well, it’s going to be a real thing and this is what we’re going to do so let’s literally write down who are our dream people to play these parts.'”.
“And f*****g amazingly, they all said yes. It was completely insane.”
Goodbye June premieres in cinemas on Friday, December 12, and on Christmas Eve, Wednesday, December 24, on Netflix.
