Tyler Robinson stands accused of assassinating Charlie Kirk in the horrific attack last month, as prosecutors confirm they will be pushing for the death penalty
Charlie Kirk’s suspected killer was spotted just one day after his assassination filling his car with petrol. It comes as prosecutors continue to build their case against 22-year-old Tyler Robinson.
Tyler is currently in police custody after being accused of murdering right-wing debater Charlie in an incident on September 10. Prosecutors have already confirmed they will be pushing for the death penalty, with US President Donald Trump also wishing for the killer to receive the harshest punishment possible.
Emerged footage appears to show Robinson seemingly filling his car up with petrol just hours after he allegedly killed Charlie. CCTV showed Robinson acting nonchalant, completely unaware of the world around him and what he reportedly did.
The Sun reported that footage shows Tyler dressed in a crimson T-shirt and a Dodge Charger’s cap as he pulled up to a forecourt. He then proceeds to take the nozzle out of the pump and fills his car with petrol in a bizarrely calm way.
Seemingly oblivious to the shooting that took place just one day earlier, he brings the nozzle back to the pump and driving away. The footage was given to Fox News after an anonymous tip was provided to police that Tyler had been in nearby Cedar City close just moments after the attack took place.
Police were eventually called to the Maverick petrol station and rummaged through bins for some time looking for any potential evidence they could have. It comes as the legal case against the 22-year-old man gets underway.
Representing the alleged killer, defence lawyers had requested more time to gather their evidence after attorneys in the state of Utah confirmed they would be appealing for the death penalty in the wake of the attack. A court hearing was called in the town of Provo, just miles from the university that was the scene of the crime.
Tyler, did not show his face at the hearing, after he appeared during a previous court engagement via videolink whilst wearing suicide prevention gear. However, when asked if he was present for the hearing itself, he did respond: “Yes, your honour”.
Robinson was eventually booked by police 36 hours after conservative commentator Charlie was gunned down in front of hundreds of students at a university campus. Despite claims that his father had turned him in, prosecutors are now claiming that he turned himself in after admitting his crimes to his loved ones.
The governor of Utah had branded Kirk’s assassination as a “political” move and pledged that he would everything he could to make sure the killer would face capital punishment. Those investigating have since claimed that Robinson had given a glimpse to his motives behind carrying out the attacks in cryptic but incriminating messages.
Authorities are now under the belief that the suspect had written a note that he was going to carry out the attack as he could not stomach Kirk’s “hatred” any longer. Due to the nature of the case and the fact it is not being treated at the federal level, Robinson’s trial could be televised as the case being dealt with at the state level, which allows for the cameras to be inside.
