In an echo if the late Queen’s ‘annus horriblis’ remark, Prince William has admitted 2024 was the toughest year of his life in a conversation with a famous US actor
Pooped Prince William reckons 2024 was the “hardest year I’ve ever had”.
The 43-year-old royal confessed he has been left knackered by bringing up his three children, as well as dealing with his wife and father’s cancer battles.
Insiders also say he has been left reeling by his ongoing estrangement with his royal rebel brother Prince Harry, 41.
Wills made the admissions during a chat with Eugene Levy for the new series of the American Pie actor’s travel show.
The Prince of Wales, who invited the Hollywood veteran for a tour of Windsor Castle, admitted “life is sent to test us”.
He added: “Being able to overcome that is what makes us who we are.”
Eugene, 78, asked William: “What do you do when you’re home?” The future king – who has children Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, seven, with his wife Catherine, 43 – replied: “Sleep.”
He added: “When you’ve got three small children, sleep is an important part of my life.”
William added 2024 had “probably been the hardest year in my life” and called it a “dreadful” experience.
His comments echoed those of the Queen, who branded 1992 her “annus horribilis” – Latin for “horrible year”.
It marked a disastrous year for the Royal Family, marked by the breakdown of three royal marriages – including the separation of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson and the divorce of Princess Anne – as well as a devastating fire at Windsor Castle that destroyed a string of rooms.
Wills’ wife Kate has previously opened up about her recent cancer journey, describing in a video how the episode had been “incredibly tough” for her family.
His father King Charles’ cancer diagnosis was announced in February last year, with the 76-year-old monarch still undergoing treatment for an undisclosed form of the disease.
Wills joined Canadian comedian Eugene on his The Reluctant Traveller show, which saw the celeb journey to London for a royal experience.
The Prince of Wales’ admissions were released in a fresh snippet from the show, set to premiere on Apple TV on 3 October.
It shows Eugene receiving a handwritten note from William, inviting him for a personal tour of Windsor Castle by the royal heir.
William quipped: “We provide this service for everyone. We do personalised tours everywhere,” before they embarked on a stroll around the estate.
Following their tour, William and Eugene headed to the local pub for a pint, where the Prince of Wales openly discussed the challenges he and his family have encountered over the past year, referring to both King Charles and Princess Kate’s cancer diagnoses within weeks of each other.
Eugene’s The Reluctant Traveller chronicles the Canadian performer as he embarks on discovering what the “ultimate travel bucket list” entails.
Other participants featured in the series include Canadian vocalist Michael Buble, Eugene’s daughter and fellow Schitt’s Creek performer Sarah Levy, K-pop group NOWZ and former Indian cricket star Rahul Dravid.
