The ‘rapture’ is a prophecy in Christianity that many people believe is going to happen on September 23. One woman sold all of her belongings in preparation for it
Predictions of the Rapture have been causing a stir on social media, with Evangelical Christians anticipating the prophecy to come true on Tuesday, Sept. 23.
The internet has been in a whirl over these forecasts, with some individuals even preparing for “Christ’s Second Coming” by purchasing new attire to meet Jesus in style. Some have gone to the extreme of selling all their worldly possessions.
This Rapture frenzy was sparked by South African pastor Joshua Mhlakela, who asserted that Jesus had personally revealed to him the date of His return. “September 23 and September 24, He told me – I will come to take my church,” the pastor disclosed during an interview on Cent Twinz TV.
TikTok user @alpharoyce_ issued a warning ahead of the predicted Rapture date, urging people to “repent” and ready themselves. She claimed to have sold all her possessions in anticipation of joining Jesus Christ in the heavens.
In a video that has racked up over 4.8 million views, Alpha Royce announced, “As many of you know, the Rapture’s on Tuesday. I’ve given away all my earthly possessions to the heathens that I know will not be coming with us, the chosen ones.”, reports the Express US.
“I’ve already transferred the deed to my house. I just need to give this car away,” she declared.
While some are taking the Rapture prediction seriously, Alpha tagged her video with #satire and #satirecomedy; she hasn’t explicitly stated her actions are satirical, but it’s likely she’s having a bit of a laugh at the whole situation.
Viewers in the comments appeared to buy into her claims
One user penned, “this is so embarrassing.”
Another remarked, “Does God know the rapture happening Tuesday? ? ?”.
Others highlighted how she hadn’t actually flogged all her worldly goods yet.
“‘All of my earthly possessions.’ Except that damn phone which is the real problem,” one user observed.
Someone else enquired if they could nab her motor.
After her initial post, Alpha also shared her rapture guidance and another AI-created clip showing her ascending heavenward.
The rapture has yet to occur
In a subsequent video uploaded today, she appeared on camera to tackle the obvious issue: the rapture was a no-show.
“I didn’t expect my rapture video to make it huge globally,” Alpha admitted. “And as you guys know, I did give away all of my stuff… I feel so stupid staying this – obviously, I’m still here, sadly.”
In reality, the rapture isn’t explicitly referenced in the Bible
Numerous Christians have founded their forecasts on biblical metaphors, including this excerpt from Matthew 24:35-37: “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away. But no one knows the day or the hour. No! Not even the angels in heaven know. The Son does not know. Only the Father knows.”
Frequently, rapture prediction dates stem from a “hunch” and series of coincidences that might suggest the event’s arrival.
For the time being, we can breathe easily knowing the rapture isn’t imminent just yet.
