The US president, 79, dismissed the idea that he had died after he was mostly absent during Labor Day weekend earlier this month – but this hasn’t stopped concerns over this health
Speculation and rumours surrounding Donald Trump’s wellbeing continue to persist following the discovery of an unusual bulge beneath his clothing.
The US president, 79, addressed a number journalists where he rubbished suggestions that he had passed away after being largely absent from the White House during much of the Labor Day weekend. “I have heard it’s sort of crazy, but last week I did numerous news conferences, all successful.
“They went very well, like this is going very well, and then I didn’t do any for two days, and they said there must be something wrong with him,” Trump said.
He also took the opportunity to take a swipe at his former political opponent, stating: “Biden wouldn’t do them for months. You wouldn’t see him, and nobody said anything.”
However, Trump’s remarks failed to prevent observers from spotting something peculiar about his appearance, particularly an odd crease in his suit sleeve. One social media user on X commented: “Strange. Fabric doesn’t normally fall like that across an arm,” reports the Mirror US.
The comment accompanied a photograph from Trump’s White House meeting, with the user highlighting a mysterious protrusion beneath his jacket.
Some suggested the bump resulted from shoulder padding in his suit, though the original poster provided examples of padded garments to demonstrate why this explanation might be flawed.
“People are suggesting this is a result of padded or extended shoulders,” he wrote. “Neither of these things have to do with how a sleeve falls.”
Another individual questioned: “Why does such a wealthy man not have well-tailored suits?”
Meanwhile, a third person suggested that the bulge resulted from someone steadying the president moments before the photograph was captured.
The conjecture emerges as a medical expert warns the president’s vascular ailment could potentially result in amputation.
Trump has been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), with photographs showing the president’s swollen ankles and bruising being shared across social media.
Dr Mimmie Kwong, associate professor of vascular surgery at the University of California, cautioned that whilst the condition affects one in three individuals, it can become severe without proper treatment.
“Typically, this happens in the legs or the arms,” said Kwong. “Veins are what bring blood flow up from the feet or the hands towards the heart.
“When they don’t work well, the blood gets stuck. This can cause pain, swelling, throbbing, aching, and in the most extreme cases, wounds or limb loss.”
CVI cases vary from mild to severe, and is commonly observed in women and elderly patients, explained Kwong.
“As the swelling gets worse, it can cause skin changes like thickening or inflammation and dryness of the skin,” she said.
“With worse disease conditions, you can develop unhealing wounds in the legs and if they get worse it could lead to amputations.”
