EXCLUSIVE Stephen Bunting has admitted he’s leaving no stone unturned in his preparation for the Paddy Power PDC World Darts Championship
Stephen Bunting has admitted he’s leaving no stone unturned in the his preparation for the World Darts Championship.
The Bullet, 40, will take on Sebastian Bialecki in the first round of the Worlds on Sunday (14 December) after a year that has seen him climb the world rankings. Now World No.4, Bunting has admitted he’s “looking forward” to the match.
Speaking to Daily Star Sport, via Dream Vegas, he said: “We can all turn up on our day and win the World Championship. Unfortunately, there’s only going to be one winner at the end of the day.
“Preparation doesn’t start today – it started a month ago, to be honest. Mine started at the beginning of the season. I’ve had a great season, up to world number four, playing some of the best darts of my life.
“It’s about staying relaxed, feeling fresh, and going into the Worlds with a massive confidence boost.”
However, this year it will be slightly different for Bunting and the rest of the ranked players – who will have to play two games before Christmas.
Bunting added: “I’ve played two games before Christmas in the past, so it doesn’t really bother me.
“As long as I win those two games and get past Christmas, that’s the aim. I want to make sure I have a fantastic Christmas at home.
“To do that, I need to win. Like I said, I’m leaving no stone unturned. I’m going to turn up at Ally Pally feeling my best and playing my best.”
However, he’s aware of the top three’s scoring power as well as a number of dark horses: “There have been quite a few who have impressed me.
“I think the likes of Gian van Veen winning in Europe, he’ll be going in with a lot of confidence. Wessel Nijman has been playing well.
“Beau Greaves. She’s a fantastic player. No one wants to draw her when the names come out.”
